I Won’t Buy a Meta Quest 3 in 2025

I'm a huge fan of VR, and still actively use my Meta/Oculus Quest 2, but with the release of the Meta Quest 3, I'm not so sure it's worth spending the money to upgrade from the Meta Quest 2 to a 3 or 3S, and in this video I go over one of the most common reasons myself and others have.

Q3 is badass! It's a lot more than a gaming device. The lenses are great, and the passthrough playing mixed reality is awesome! Def worth upgrading from Q2.

The Quest 3 is miles ahead of the Quest 2. The pass through is so much better. With Asgards Wrath, Batman, and several other games you have plenty of choices for great games. If u are into productivity the Quest 3 allows you to have 3 or more screens to do your work with. You can project your X Box or even your phone on the Quest 3 screen and it’s incredible. I think you are missing out on one of the best VR headsets for gaming and productivity. The QGO (Quest Game Optimizer) really increases the resolution of most games and really makes them awesome

I totally get where you are coming from. One little dumb thing is about all these games "I can also play on my Quest 2" and then you show Batman, which you cannot play on Quest 2. When that is said and done you are 100% correct. I personally love the concept of VR, bought all kinds of haptics vests and guns, but I am rarely using VR these days, as the games coming out today are kind of lackluster, to put it mildly. I doesn't help that we have had awesome VR games previously like the aforementioned Resident Evils, and Walking Dead. Now most VR youtubers are stepping over each other trying to hype up extremely mediocre games and "these are the best games of this month", without having a clue on quality - they are fighting for views and their livelyhoods. I guess some people will say: "But what about Metro, Behemoth, Alien and Batman"? Batman is alright, but the rest are kind of so-so - they are what you can call "office hot" games, cause we don't have anything better these days. I mostly play good old Walkabout Mini Golf, Synth Riders and occasional flat-to-vr mods.

I will however say getting a Quest 3 can still be worth it for the scraps of good entertainment to be found. The clarity and the extra performance is great.

I bought a used quest 2 in great shape for $125. Had it about a day and even though I love it, I was shopping for a 3 right away.. Got another really good deal on a barely used one. I'm older too, and my favorite games are like golf, boxing, darts, ping pong and pool in MR. I play golf with some friends every week. I also like tabletop games like demeo, demeo battles and triangle strategy in MR. And I use it almost every night for watching movies or browsing remotely from my desktop. I still like having the 2 to share the experience with friends and to use for exercise when I sweat.

No, no, a Quest 3 is an ENORMOUS upgrade over a Quest 2. Unless you are waiting for a 4K OLED device, you can't really go wrong at this cost point. Avoid the 3S of course (it's has the same optics as a Quest 2). The Quest 3 is the first headset that reduces the screen door effect to the point where it's not noticeable, and using it is finally immersive to the point where I want to use it, versus just experiencing a gimmick.

EDIT: Your complaint is that there aren't enough great VR games?! First, you need a good graphics card and rig, like an NVIDIA 4080. Here are my picks:

Subnautica with the Submersed VR mod.
Skyrim VR with an appropriate mod pack.
Elite Dangerous if you get good flight sticks.
No Man's Sky (it's actually possible to play with controllers on foot and flight sticks in the space ship)
Half Life Alyx (and the very excellent VR mods for Half Life and Half Life 2)

^ each of the above are very excellent REAL games, not VR demos that try to pass themselves off as games. And many more excellent games are coming out now. You really should reconsider what you think about VR games. Unless you experience extreme motion sickness or eye strain, you should consider giving the above VR games a try.

Main reason i need a quest 3 is 1 my microphone don’t work 2 my right controllers ring is broken and 3 my volume buttons are broken and stuff and there’s no point in trynna find a used quest 2 cuz i most def won’t find one brand new and no need ina quest 3s so i just need a quest 3 plus i believe all the games i personally play have been quest 3 optimized like Pavlov and stuff

I agree. Also, the Quest’s library are too expensive and don’t particularly feel like full games. The “games” only give a short lived sense of experience and nothing further. Stick with the Quest 2.

I think you're coming from a purist gamer point of view. Casual gaming also exists. :)

i felt the quest 2 was amongst the best of the competitors but i didn't like the passthrough. weight wise, size everything seemed better with the quest 2. then the quest 3 came out being the only one i can say that price ability and features. quest 3 is the only thing that seems to beat the quest 2 hands down. some may have better graphics or controls, but with all the added cost accessories and rest of it just to have a head set 3 times heavier nah man.. original quest 3 seems the way to go. but some may say the 3s is better. for the price and weight and features, good luck finding much else. and the onset games are really picking up but if not quest 3 is great for pcvr games too.

Don’t do it ever since I had it on my eyes I’m not able to see as good as I used to. Don’t do it a mess of your vision.
