This is not for those of us who have a Quest 3. It’s for Quest2 users that want an affordable upgrade. Not only is this a bad comparison it doesn’t make sense.

Don’t you get it? If it had pancake lenses there would be no difference between the 3S and the 3. This is the thing that is making it so cheap

Your problem is that you are thinking of it as a Quest 3 upgrade or replacement. It is the entry level headset, it is supposed to feel cheaper because it si cheaper. It can't have the expensive pancake lenses cause is a CHEAp versionn of the Q3

I like my Quest 3 so much! This reminds me of my Quest 2 and I never go back to it.

The Quest 3S is the definition of what marketers call an ‘anchor product’. It will grab attention at the price, will sell, then will garner interest in ‘there’s got to be more than this’.

It worked on me with the Quest 2 till I upgrade 3 months later 😂

Quest 3S is basically a Quest 2+. Outfit a Quest 2 with the same processor and cameras of the Quest 3 (minus the depth sensor), and you have a Quest 3S.

For $300 though, Meta is likely heavily subsidizing this headset. Even with the inferior lenses to the Quest 3, you're getting a solid standalone VR experience for $300.

I have noticed the bloom effect Is not as prevalent on the quest 3S, most likely due to the fresno lenses. I don't understand why the glare is so bad on the pancake lenses and not the Fresno lenses. I think it's because the pancake lenses have a more even surface so the bloom is more noticeable, but yeah the quest 3S has less glare.

The quest 2 lenses where simple and nice to atleast look threw

Spend the extra money for the Quest 3 lenses. They make all the difference.

If your considering this for PCVR and you have a quest 2, theres no point. Literally no point. Either get Quest 3 or stick with the 2

If they really wanted to be progressive they could've had the option to trade in your quest 2 at a serious markdown in price for the quest 3.

I legitimately thought the quest 3s was going to be just a quest 3, but without the AR technology built in. I am dissapointed that its just a quest 2 with the power of the quest 3, but its justifiable lol, should be called the quest 2s instead
