In this video Dr. Lustgarten introduces his N of 1 experiment and gives an overview of the processes that he follows. He also discusses why he thinks it is important to track your own markers and not just rely on published trials.

Dr. Michael Lustgarten is a scientist at the Tufts University Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging in Boston, Massachusetts. His research currently focuses on the role of the gut microbiome and serum metabolome on muscle mass and function in older adults.
In this series of interviews Dr Lustgarten shares his experience with his rigorous n of 1 experiment over the last 7 years and shows how we or anyone can conduct a similar trial by tracking food, exercise and sleep, measure results and derive relationships between them, with a goal of extending our healthspan.

He is the best, most informative, truly scientific! Just food, the right amount from trial and test results. Exquisite person above others in normal longevity.

This guy is the real deal. Actually, uses real food, not pills. To improve his bio markers. Measures everything. With great results. Food is incredible powerful. Quality over quantity is key. Add some exercise, fasting and meditation with that. You will age slower for sure. Estimates are 15-20 more years, but more importantly your healthspan will be much better. Ofcourse, everyone is different and you should figure out what you need diet wise. But exercise, fasting and meditation are universally good.

Michael has done an excellent job nailing down optimum ranges or values for many common blood markers. Understanding that blood work interpretation is vastly improved by aiming for optimum values as opposed to just being within the reference range can make a huge difference in one's health and help raise red flags early. My exerience is that a physician does not track trends withn a reference range or inform us about optmum values - they just look for out of range numbers.

Right now, that's the only practical approach I know of which can tackle the complexity of my metabolism.
And the fact that I can do it by myself makes it even more attractive.
Thanks for the info !

So glad to see you talking to Dr. Lustgarten again. Your series about a year ago led me to Dr. Lustgarten's web site and his own excellent YouTube channel. He does a great job of making numerical connections understandable to those of us who aren't biochemist. Like Modern Healthspan, Dr. Lustgarten's channel is "must see" YouTube!

Prof Lustgarten is on to something huge here. I've been more or less doing what he's been doing for the last couple if year, although with less scrutiny. It would be great to take a larger cohort of people and see whether or not it's possible to positively affect phenotype blood age and move beyond and N of 1. There's incredible potential for Healthspan by building a data set like this. I hope he can expand beyond his own tests and find some funding for a trial.

Follow Mike on Facebook, I like his approach, underpinning the importance of testing and only changing one variable at a time. When systematic n=1 can be very powerful. Clearly the results are only relevant to the subject, but that’s fine.

Just bought an Oura ring (Gen 3) and I just got my Levels CGM. Now all set for some serious data science.
