2008 bmw 328i (n52) rpm's jumping, engine shaking

Dose anyone know what this could be?

If you have oil leak from valve cover. Replace valve cover gasket. And check for oil inside shaft sensor connection.

probably vacuum leak seeing as how theres no check engine light. check your pcv system. especially foam pipe coming from back of valve cover. becomes brittle and cracks off

Replace the camshaft position sensors and the vvt solenoids and your car will run like new. Had the same problem with my 2006 325i. Just make sure you also buy oem o rings because if you don’t you WILL leak oil…

Could be a Number of things vanos solenoids, ignition coils, spark plugs, vanos return valves need cleaning, maf sensor one of these will do it

Check also your vanos solenoids the n52 models are known to have those go bad which will cause rough idle ....I have a 2009 e90 which I just did a whole engine servicing on. They are fun cars to work on #saveabmw

Had the same issue, it's your ignition coils. Only use OEM bosch when replacing

Hey I have a bmw 328i x drive i had bought it’s making a almost diesel like dirt bike noise when I start it rpm’s are shaking 1-3 back and fourth I bought it like this when I checked the oil someone had put transmission fluid in the engine so I changed that out put the proper fluid in and put a new oil filter on I checked the spark plugs and there extremely dirty when I start it up it dies right away after I’m done revving the car I just don’t no where to start I was told it might be a solenoid or fuel pump and the car shakes to any idea?

Mines is doing the same thing, I have a leak under the hood minor could that be why?? Did you ever find out what it was?

Hi, I just came across this video. My 2021 BMW X5 (G05) diesel engine had started doing this rough idling. This year November 2025, will make my car 4 years old. If I am reversing / going forward at slow speed, the vehicle will be jerking back and forth shaking the hell out of my son in the back seat. Also was initiating a turn at slow speed, I will feel some vibration underneath the car as if the wheel are slipping or the xdrive is struggling to find grip (even on dry surfaces). I took it to the BMW dealership, and the mechanic reprogrammed the gear shifting sensor to which it only worked smoothly for 1 week, and I am now facing the same problem again. I am a 1st time bmw owner. Can anyone throw light of possible causes and fixes as the bmw mechanic here in Auatria (are stupied)..

I had this, replace oem camshaft sensors intake and exhaust one, i bought aftermarket cheap sensors and guess what they didnt work and had to put old camshaft sensors back and the car worked normal

182k miles.. I call o2 sensors not reading properly causing a lean misfire with the fuel system on bank 1 more than likely. I hate bmws.

Vanos..solenoid there is 2 the top one .
