Something to be aware of. My cars emission sticker is on the hood but the hood was replaced on my car. The emission sticker on my hood is for the same car with a TBI carburetor but my car has fuel injection so the hose map is all wrong too. You can find out if the car is california or federal emissions by using the last 8 digits of your VIN number and calling the dealer. They can look it up...

More info on CARB compliance:

A vehicle is a California Emissions Certified model if the VEHICLE EMISSIONS CONTROL INFORMATION (VECI) label references: California, 50-State, CARB or ARB. This is vital information if regulations in your state mandate replacement converters be CARB compliant.
The EFN, also referred to as the Engine Family Number, Emission Family Number or Test Group Number, is prominently located on the Vehicle Emission Control Information label, along with other important emissions specifications. This information is vital when looking up parts in a catalog, to ensure proper fit and when navigating state-mandated aftermarket replacement converter regulations.

I'm trying to smog a "federal emissions" vehicle in California. My engine family number does not show up under any executive order EFNs. Apparently I can use the "closest" EFN as long as I tell the smog shop that I have a "federal" emissions vehicle.

What type of sensor do I get if it says EPA and California? Can I install a Federal emissions 02 sensor or does it have to be California emission 02 sensor?

My catalytic converter was stolen from my honda civic. Also the hood was replaced some time ago so the sticker with the engine family number is wrong. The dealers, i called two, can’t give me the family number and suggested i go ask a smog shop. So much for Honda service

I have a 1997 ss Camaro that was originally from North Carolina. It's been in California since 1999 and i've always passed smog. The sticker says "This vehicle conforms to U.S EPA regulations applicable to 1997 model - year new passenger cars. OBD certified." So my question is " Do i now have to purchase a Cali CARB catalytic converter or can i still use the FED converters ? Also, can i run high flow cats ? This is an OBD II vehicle with the port under the dash. Also i have another 1997 ss, same exact car from Cali and it says that "it conforms to california regulations and its OBD II certified. The first one doesn't say Cali and only OBD certified.

Oh my goodness! The amount of people that are being scammed by shops! A California alternator? I am pretty sure the only thing that sets the Cali car apart from a "normal" car is the cat. converter. Maybe something else in the emissions dept too, but for other parts like an alternator that has no bearing on air and emissions? I highly doubt it.

Do you need fuel injectors from
California? I had a mechanic tell me it’s California emission and he didn’t check under the hood just did an engine diagnostic check. Can it be read through that?
