I haven’t had covid yet, but wearing a mask in public places during the pandemic gave me the longest span of wellness in my life. I used to catch colds, flu, and viruses several times a year and haven’t been sick a single time. Masks in busy places is the norm for me now.

Whenever someone says something critical of someone wearing a mask I ask them "why do you hate freedom?" It's a free country. I can wear whatever I want on my face.

When someone accuses you of political theatre for wearing a mask, the issue is not only with them but they are making you wearing it about them. This is all about me. I'm wearing a mask to protect me, and if it protects you great. But I am not wearing a mask to piss you off. Stop taking it personally, being selfish, and making wearing a mask and me wearing one, about yourself.

Wearing a mask does more to protect your health than wearing shoes in a 7-11, yet somehow they don't whine about "No shirt, no shoes, no service" being "virtue signaling".

I’ve been feeling more and more like a nutter for still wearing a mask everywhere - and this video made me feel validated.

My 83-year-old mom, living in Florida in the heart of retiree-ville, was out at Walmart in early August and did not wear her mask and, sure enough, got Covid. Luckily, she was fully vaxxed and didn’t get more than mild cold symptoms, but I was really scared for her. She then called me and asked where I had purchased my N95 masks that I keep in my car for easy access. I sent her the Amazon link. I’ll admit I don’t wear mine all the time, but I definitely put mine on if I’ll be inside for more than a few minutes, or in a large building like a grocery store (although I still am getting food delivered or do curbside pickup, thus reducing any exposure there). I have my salon appointment tomorrow and will have my disposable mask on for the two hours I’ll be there, even though I will probably be the only one.

Additional benefit to masking up: nobody can see that I haven't trimmed my nose hairs in 2 months.

It's a good call.

I got a job a month ago. I decided hey, I can get more done at work if I ditch the mask during business hours, because hey, what happens happens right?

I got COVID last week. I'm just now starting to get over the worst of it. I'll probably be expected back to work next Monday through the fatigue of post-COVID. Ugh.

My boss's husband was a Trump supporter and believed Trump that it was just like the flu, that one day very soon it would disappear, that thinking it was a deadly disease was a "democrat hoax." So he didn't wear a mask. Didn't stay home as much as possible. Visited his friends. And then he died of it.

Something I learned about wearing a face mask was that it is a great way to hide my emotions in public. While wearing a mask other people can't tell if I'm happy or sad or angry or frustrated. They can't tell if I'm smiling or frowning. Wearing face masks is a great way to keep our real emotions private.

I live in Japan and since the pandemic started I have been outside without a mask like… two times? For like a minute to take out the trash? And most people still wear masks constantly. They’re a requirement and the school I work at and the gym I go to. I think I would feel really uncomfortable being around a bunch of people who weren’t wearing masks because I’ve gotten so used to it. When I see pictures of events in America where everyone is maskless I feel really anxious. Everyone’s acting like the pandemic is over. One of the biggest reasons I haven’t visited home since I moved here three and a half years ago.

"why don't they just obey the police?" "I can't believe you just follow orders you sheep" -same people somehow

Hey Steve, as someone who has been outright told by my doctor that COVID would kill me even fully vaccinated: thank you for wearing a mask. Commuting to work, going to the store, doing anything out and about is terrifying for me even though I often double mask. I wish that people were smarter about this all. The level of selfishness is just apalling at times. Even in my workplace, which is supposed to be upwards of 90% vaccinated, the number of anti-science, OANN watching, antimasking people who have tried to sneak in with COVID just shows how much I need to wear it still. I should have a right to not be scared to go around and live my life.

I've also managed to go this entire time without getting COVID because of masking (and my vaccinations).

A year late to the party but THANK YOU for making this video!

I had to start masking in 2019 due to immune issues and got so much crap for it. Granted, I was the only one around doing it then but I had hoped nowadays people would be more understanding. :/

Why masks are great: 1. Less sickness. 2. Less allergies. 3. You don't need to make conversation with people you don't like or know. Win win.

I am with you 100%. I currently live in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and wear a mask - and get harassed daily. Thank you for this video, and allowing me to reframe my distress from being harassed, to being happy to make the harassers day a little less sunny. I grew up in Bethesda, MD, where my family still lives. So, knowing Maryland, you know what a bastion of liberalism, knowledge, education, and research in which I grew up. My mother was a Research Scientist contracted by the Military to develop cures and vaccines.

THANK YOU. Seriously. I'm one of the few teachers in my building still masking. I had the misfortune, despite masking in public and being up to date on my vaccines, of getting COVID right before school started, and, no. It's not fun. My case was mild, so I was lucky. But wearing a mask around other people is smart. Just because it isn't required, so many people feel it isn't necessary. I'll just sit here with my KN-95 and continue limiting my exposure.

Also, wearing one outside means my allergies don't act up as much, so double win!

I think the 83% stat is based on a properly fitted N95/KN95. With an off the shelf KN95 and a beard you won't be getting full N95 protection. It's still an improvement though.

I still wear a mask everywhere I go. Don’t care what people think, I will keep wearing one. I haven’t gotten COVID and I hope to never get it. I know too many who have long haul or have died personally so yeah, don’t plan on changing anytime soon.

Masks work. My self and my family haven’t had a flu or a cold since COVID started. Yeah, wearing a mask beats getting sick.
