You can make up to 120k per year or close to 50k per year on the low end. 24k per year is below minimum wage….

Fun fact:to get into the coast guard academy at new London you have to get a request a letter of recommendation to be sent to the academy by either the current governor, your current federal district representative, or one of the two senators of the state

I spent 8 yrs in the coal guard, got out as an E5 in 92. I was making with everything: approximately $20k a yr. Total. I was broke and that’s why I got out.

This is the main reason I cannot join. I would not be able to afford my mortgage on this pay. It’s pretty ridiculous that McDonalds workers make more than serviceman.

A lot of this is inaccurate. Just to start, the highest ranking enlisted member is “Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard” which is a master chief with special pay. And starting salaries depend on what you sign in on as, you could start being paid as an E-3. Also, starting with N-203, basic will be 10 weeks from what Ive heard.

As an E-4 and including all pay not just base pay I’m making 74, 500 after tax including OHA, COLA etc…in Guam

All military branches make the same base pay. But we do get sea pay, and we dont have barracks at most of our bases, so even single lower enlisted members often receive BAH.

As a 3rd Class in San Francisco I get about 75k a year, before I got of housing I was making dick all. BAH is a huge difference

The BAH and other supplementals for having dependents make it way more. This is just base pay like most comments have mentioned, the other income you receive is also tax free.

Striker program has not been around for almost a decade. Base bay and actual pay is not the same. I make 80k as a single e5 in Key West.
