man this series is great. makes you respect a military branch that not a lot of people will even acknowledge.

I love how you so delicately described why you didn't want to show a lot of what you filmed. Most people would be filming and posting that every where. Much respect to you for your respect for others.

8:17 the sense of *URGENCY* the SECOND they heard 'no pulse' - truly grateful we have these guys whether we like them or not on weekends like this, they're ultimately here to keep you alive and able to see the next day... kudos to them, they truly are heroes on the water!

"Hi, I'm Destin from Smarter Every Day, and I'm going to give you an appreciation for the things you overlooked in life"
I love this channel so much, thank you for being a non-ironic enthusiastic person on this platform

"In different states of mental awareness because of choices they had made" is one of the politest, most generous circumlocutions I have ever heard. You're a gentle genius😊

That last clip is why you ALWAYS wear a life jacket on a small craft. Things happen way faster than you think, and you do not want to be making decisions in an emergency.

Coast Guard always gets a lot of flak from other branches, but this series has really helped to break the misconceptions. Glad they are patrolling our waters.

I've been living in destin for 6 years and work on the beach. Ive seen too many lives lost in that water. So I truly thank you for bringing awareness and safety to some of the dangers people may face.

So much content on YT I have to pre-watch for appropriateness before my little kiddos watch. But your clean, exciting, informative content is always kid-safe, dependably! Thank you, Destin!

Yes! Let's do Smarter Every Day deep dive on the Space Station where Destin goes to the Space Station personally.

Destin in Destin made me giggle. We used to visit when we were stationed at Fort Rucker, AL and it took me back. It’s so great to see someone’s faith evident through their actions—I didn’t meet too many like him when I was studying engineering—SED sure is a blessing!!

My grandparents passed away last month and we used to visit them in Destin every summer. It's a strange nostalgia seeing a place I recognize so well from such a different perspective.

Every experience I've had with the coast guard there around crab island has been super nice.

YOOOO 13:52 that's my old lacrosse coach Jimmy! Glad to hear that nobody got hurt when their boat capsized. Dude's a legend.

The banter at 11:18 is so good.
"Thanks for paying your taxes." 🤣

Thank you, Destin, for shining a light on the many and varied things our Coast Guard does for us. Your enthusiasm really comes through, and your thoughtful approach to explaining everything is great. And, of course, a great big thanks to the men and women of the United States Coast Guard for doing all those things you do each and every day. God bless you Coasties!

Another series similar to this that I think would be really interesting is a deep dive on Cal Fire. Talk dispatch, engines, command, air attack, etc

Awesome to see this video right as I get out of boot camp! Your first video made me do some research and get in contact with a recruiter. And as of two days ago I'm finally a coastie!!

Way to go, captain of the Adeline! So good to hear people looking out for each other, and avoided a potentially deadly situation. Love the video, Destin. I have been loving these documentary series you've been doing. The Tractor Pulls, Navy Submarines US Coast Guard, etc, are so good.
