Speaking as someone who was on a boat with mechanical issues 140 miles offshore, it was a huge relief when the USCG jet found us and maintained contact until the USCGC Seahawk arrived from Carabelle, FL. The Seahawk crew checked out our issue, tried to get our engines started and eventually took us under tow to Panama City. I know that the 5 of us on that boat, and our families, are most appreciative of the USCG and everything that they do for all of us. Great video, Sam.

I'm an avid swimmer myself, but that takes nerves of steel to jump the middle of the ocean from a helicopter. I can't even imagine trying to rescue someone out there. As always, love your production quality; you are a true master of your craft.

20 Yr US Marine here, these Coasties are friggen bad ass. Trained with some of their pilots in flight school and they were sharp, very professional folks. I've seen the videos on their rescue swimmers and I'm just in awe. As someone who wants to get a water survival instructor cert, I watch their content whenever it drops. Having to put your butt on the line and rescue people in varying conditions is inspiring. Cheers from San Diego!

Eight years retired from the Coast Guard as a AMT/Flight Mechanic and I found myself right back to the countless number of rescues I was a part of. Even still remember the commands/dialog as I found myself repeating as the hoisting was commencing.

i remember back during hurricane sandy when i lived right next to the beach, the entire area was flooded and it looked like the apocalypse or something. When the coast guard and national guard helicopters decended to help rescue people it was like watching angels come down, it was a feeling you can never understand until you see it yourself. i will never forget it, thank you guys, you are heroes :>

I served in the Coast Guard. I was stationed in Alaska and then on a 378 ft ship out of New York. Loved my job !

Nothing but love and respect for these brave men and women. You couldn't get me in the middle of the ocean. I've seen JAWS...No Thank You.

It's really refreshing that there is attention for all of the people that make this work, and not only the pilots.

6:54 "A hero for a few moments." No -- these swimmers are heroes for life. Incredible

I have a friend stationed at USCG Air Station Sacramento. Great group of guys flying the C27 primarily and the only fixed wing air station on the west coast. He's told me some pretty hairy stories. Thanks for highlighting this Sam. The "Coasties" don't get a lot of pub, but they do work and it's hard work.

Absolutely incredible Sam! Literally my favorite piece you've done. I love everything about the H-60 and what an incredible way to portray our amazing men and women who serve in the USCG. Keep it up!

December 1999 I as on a fishing charter out of Virgina Beach with my Son and some friends when at 4:50 in the morning and Southeast of Rudie Inlet our boat hit what was later determined to be a buoy that the SEALs used. It was grey and rose 4-5 feet out of the water. t didn't show up on radar and had no lights or reflectors. It stopped a 58' sport fishing boat that was traveling around 23-25 knots like a hitting a brick wall. There was a 4x8 foot hole in the starboard bow that ended at the bulkhead of a stateroom and the bow stateroom. A giant car carrying ship stopped to render assistance. The Coast Guard was spinning up a helicopter but canceled the aircraft after knowing we were safe but still sent a 47' rescue boat like the one in the video. The Coast Guard crew even brough us back to the inlet off of the ship. There are no words that can adequately praise these men and women for the job they do. P.S., because the captain shored up the bulkhead to the engine room the boat was saved and still fishes to this day though it has had quite a few upgrades and several repower events.

As someone in the Army, the Coast Guard is probably my most respected branch, more so than my own. They are seriously under appreciated.

Thanks for these videos, Sam. Not a member of the armed forces myself, but I love seeing them in action and representing the best of America. Thank you!

Another exciting and educational video; thanks. The USCG is part of Homeland Security and as mentioned serves a multipurpose role of both rescue and protection. A shoutout to who ever jumped in the water and followed Sam through both the training and simulate rescue.

👍

Never thought much about the Coast Guard but if anyone ever watched Deadliest Catch, then you know how elite and badass these guys are. The show always do a really good job of portraying that to the viewers and highlight how important they are

I am a viewer from the UK, I have been hoisted into a Wessex (S-58) on a training exercise. I have huge admiration for the US Coastguard and everything they do. This video as excellent, good effort by you and Coastguard. You could have dobe several vidos focusing on different parts of this unit and what they do, they would all have been hugely enternainng. Many thanks for this video.

The part where the pilot acknowledges the distress call and give ‘em the ETA! That gave me chills. I can’t imagine how it feels being in that situation and hearing those words over the radio! Great job
