I would mix my own but when I do I rarely get the same colour tone consistently and I usually waste a lot of expensive paint.
That's the main reason I buy specific tones I use frequently.
The only colour I usually mix is orange, because I'm yet to find a decent orange that isn't so watery right from the pot that it's basically orange tinted water.

I like to mix my colors makes my painting feel more involved and personal

I like the idea of mixing your own colour, but I have an issue with the colour consistency. I used to mix my own field grey as I felt that the on the shelf version was too green. I ended up wasting paints from 3 other pots just trying to get the shade I wanted & when I did, I struggled to replicate it a gain despite having the ratio written down. When painting one of two models I can see the value, but when you are painting an army which needs a uniform look, bit would be easier & I would say cheaper in the long run to buy the colour needed.

Honestly....a friend of mind told me that the only colors ya really need are the primary ones and black/white. Everything else you can more or less mix. Though the fancy ones you can buy as a treat.

Yes but counter argument most colors are themselves a mix of other so mixing a red and blue will either be a burgundy to a purplish brown. For highlights yes this would work but sometimes you need the vibrancy

But then I can’t decorate an entire wall with different paints by different companies.😂 I swear half the time I think I collect paint.

But how do you do that with metalic panits ?

However, when you need to mix most of your colors you 1) will likely have to do that multiple times in one sitting (since you haven’t mixed enough [unless you want to waste a lot]) and 2) will need to remix that exact colour multiple times with your army over multiple days.
This of course gets easier with improved skill and knowledge but will probably always be a pain in the bum. Still, I do think that these skills are a good idea to acquire.

Yeah, but what if me buying these little cutties evolved into a coping mechanism for the anxiety of existence?! Huh?

Yes but... ;) In case of a single miniature, the colour mixing is more than enough. However, in case of painting whole army, you either get very good at mixing large quantities of paints OR you save yourself time and just buy few pots/bottles of This Specific Colour
