In a series of major changes set to reshape how content is moderated online, Meta will revise its content review policies on Facebook and Instagram. The company will phase out fact-checkers in favor of user-generated “community notes,” similar to the approach used by Elon Musk’s X, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday.

The shift comes just ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, a time when Trump has heavily criticized Zuckerberg and Meta for what he perceives as censorship of right-wing voices.

"Fact checkers have been too politically biased and have eroded more trust than they’ve built," Zuckerberg said in a video unveiling the new policy. "What began as a movement for inclusivity has increasingly been used to silence opposing opinions, and it’s gone too far."
