I wanted to share a real review of my standing desk, the Ikea Skarsta desk. One of the things I didn't splurge on was this desk, and I wanted to share with you guys if I made the right decision. There are a few things you guys should be aware of before buying this desk. First, wobbliness. Second, the crank handle (and the stopper). Bought the 160cm Skarska yesterday. Your review was helpful for my decision. At the lowest position the desk is really very stable. NO wobbling. At the highest position at which I am typing right now with the upper edge of the desk at the height of 125, 5 cm the desk is still stable. Yes, there is a little shaking of the 32 inch Monitor, but nothing I would describe as inconvienient. No problems at all. A nice desk, good price-performance-ratio. Cranking works well. One advantage of manual cranking is that you can position the desk precisely.

I've owned mine for the last 3-4 years. I rarely raise mine up but am considering upgrading to an electronic desk but it's a tough call since this desk is almost good enough. All of these 2 leg designs, even the much more premium electronic desks suffer from wobbling/shaking at height. I would even say this Ikea might be more stable than some of the competition. One small thing I think that could be improved is the lowest height setting. I wish it could go down a couple more inches at the minimum height setting. This would be beneficial to shorter users looking to dial in an ergonomic sitting position without the use of a foot rest.

Thanks for your review! I bought a used one today (47.25" wide) and am very happy with it. I tightened a number of the bolts and have no wobbling. I put "dry" silicone lubricant on the crank parts. So far, the piece that's giving you problems is staying put for me. I was careful to tighten the screw to that part really hard on the indentation at the end of the crank. We'll see how it holds up over time. I think I may tighten all the bolts, etc. a few times a year. One thing I noticed is that I have an older model in which the tabletop attaches to the legs in a seemingly less secure fashion with four ~1/4" plastic doodads (I've no idea what they're actually called) instead of 8 screws shown in IKEA's online instructions for the newer models. This, and the fact that my already-assembled used model had some loose bolts and "pins" when I got it, makes me think regular tightening will be wise.

Thank you very much for posting this, you helped me decide on the Trotten desk 120cm/160cm (same make, they appear to be rebranding).

My experience, I haven't bothered to level after putting it together and probably never will. After one week, I find there is no wobble when typing standing up (I'm 5 foot 8), even if my arms are resting on the desk top (I usually hover my hands). If I put my hands on it and push back and forth, as I see people doing in some videos, then it moves, but then I'm deliberately moving it. Just now I had both my hands resting on the desk while properly swaying about to Love Shack without a hint of desk wobble.

One issue. After just one day, the grip on the crank doesn't stay on. It's supposed to clip into place, and it did, but it doesn't anymore. I phoned IKEA but it can't be replaced on it's own, I'd have to send the whole thing back. The good news is that it's superfluous, the crank is smooth and can be turned without it.

GREAT review! Would like to see you review all of the many different white supply/file cabinets/boxes you have there next to your desk as well as the Alex Cabinets.

Nice review. I've had this desk for about a week and am really enjoying it. The build quality is amazing. My trick for getting it to the right standing height is to position it 2 inches below my elbow, which is where I like having it. This is my first standing desk, and might look at motor assist versions in the future, but for now I'm loving the Skarsta!

I thought I was sold on the Idasen but after watching your review, I might be getting this Skarsta. Plus the Idasen does not have the white table top/leg option like I want. since I'm not handy, I'd like to purchase the desk and table as a set with the pre drilled holes. Thank you for such a thorough review!

Ah yes, very good point about the depth, so i dont have to worry about my kids grabbing my scissors, definitely an upside (me, 22 year old single student) jokes aside, great review!

I got a desk converter and returned it to get this standing desk instead. I like it but I must admit I miss how much easier it was to raise or lower my work station with the pneumatic desk converter. I would just push a lever and it went up really quickly. With the crank it takes a lot of time to raise it or lower it to my liking.
The problem with the converter though is that it takes up a lot of space. There's much less usable space in your desk. I love how much cleaner my desk is with a standing desk.

Great review! A cable tie might make an easy fix for the crank - either on its own or backing up the metal part that’s sliding off.

I'm surprised the table can bear the monitor weight. Nice Review
