Yesterday in 2004, #Marines launched the Second Battle of Fallujah, also known as Operation Phantom Fury.

For more than six weeks, Marines and Soldiers fought alongside coalition partners to clear the city of insurgents.

The street-to-street and house-to-house fighting was some of the most intense combat of the Iraq War, and led to acts of exceptional courage by Marines and Soldiers.

Nine Marines were awarded the Navy Cross for their heroism, and U.S. Army Staff Sergeant David Bellavia received the Medal of Honor.

Uncle of mine who was a Navy Corpsman participated in the battle, was awarded a purple heart after he received multiple shrapnel wounds from an IED, and was commended for giving medical attention to a comrade while under fire. He died 3 months ago in a cement truck crash. Truck rolled over and that was it. He had to take the job after spending most of his adult life serving, found that VA pensions fell well short of making ends meet. Never forget that while the man next to you may give his very life to keep you safe, the brass up top will fuck you the first chance they see.

My friend Jason Clairday was one of those Marines that received the Navy Cross. 🙏

One of the baddest dudes in my unit on deployment was an old school dude who had fought in Fallujah. Homie had documented kills with the Mossberg.

People listened when he spoke.

Bellavia’s speech is possibly my favorite military speech of all time.

“We've seen war. We don't want war, but if you want a war with the United States of America, there is one thing I can promise you, so help me God: someone else will raise your sons and daughters.”

On this day before Marine Corps birthday and upcoming vets day, Semper fi to all Marines past and present. I had the privilege to serve next to a Medal of Honor recipient during my 10 year enlistment. It was a humbling experience. I give honor to all who served and are currently serving. Thank you and God bless! ALL GAVE SOME, AND SOME GAVE ALL. In remembrance of the fallen!

This was a really hard time during OIF2. Najaf had just finished a few months earlier, and we'd been seeing an increase in VBIEDs as well. I wasn't at Falljuah during the battle but went to the city a week after for some memorials, and events with my unit and I'll never forget how it looked. Thank you again Devil Dogs for doing the hard work, and doing it so well.

I was with 3/5 Lima company. I was 19 yrs old, knew nothing about life and carried my M249 with pride. I did like I was told and was a fucking badass Marine….Sadly the things that were unknown, was the country would go back to worse than before, with government garbage and extreme property and disarray. Cancers would spread like wildfire within the country. And the PTSD and suicide of the Marines and soldiers would be an epidemic. Truth in that we were heroes, Belligerence in that the costs are overlooked.

God, I want to forget those days. It was as if every house, in that city was booby-trapped. The majority of our company suffered some type of injury. We had a corrupt commander and a cowardice XO.

The only way they would allow someone to be medi-vac, was for them to be bleeding from a gunshot wound. We had soldiers that had been shot and badly bruised, with possible broken ribs and they were forced to "carry-on". The majority of us, had shrapnel and/or head injuries from the well-hidden bombs.
