i rewinded at the toad house crash, it seems that when Luigi is present the 1-ups subtract your lives, and you went down below 0
remember on the touchscreen you can have a reserve item, try using that to rid Luigi if all else fails (i would assume you use your mouse for it)
so far the level layouts seem to be from the basegame as well
