Full story:
The park was called River Country and when it opened it was the first water park Disney had ever done. Shortly after it opened crocodiles were discovered in a lake near the park. They temporarily closed it and reopened it. A little after that a teen boy got a brain eating disease because there was led in the plastic for the slide. They never reopened River Country.

Edit 2: An 8 year old boy died because a brain eating amiboa went up his nose and ate his brain

As you dont know why river country closed in 2001 an 8 year old boy wanted to go to this water park and when he when he was sliding a bacteria Got into His nose and eat His Brain which killed him and thats why it closed in 2001

One good explanation- a kid was at the grand Floridian ( Disney hotel) and he dipped his feet in the lake. His parents were not paying attention and an alligator came and drowned him. Disney didn’t know that the lake was infested with alligators and snakes. Why the park was closed was because some of the water slides ended in this alligator infested lake. Btw I’m at Disney rn😮.

I remember this park well, so many good old memories being here. Was never a place for big slides but glad i can say i got to go here

Some of these comments are wrong, yes a boy died from brain eating bacteria but there was only ever one case of that happening (the water was safe) the main reason it closed was because of the 2 new water parks disney opened, so Disney closed it for the winter but never opened it again
