I think such things can also be seen clearly in chinese buddhism. Their monks' clothings are more like taoists' than that of monks from other sects (of other regions). And they practise vegetarianism like taoists but non-chinese monks don't.
I mean religious people add extra stuffs that comfort them. Thats very common in all religions and islam isn't exception

I have been morbidly curious about Canaanite paganism (the Ba'al cycle and the like) The fact that Yaweh was formerly referred to as Elohim or El Shaddai, the head of the Canaanite pantheon, is El. The fact that one of the villains of that pantheon is an evil sea serpent and attempted usurper named Yam. see where i'm going with this? It is interesting that the antagonistic god of the Canaanite pantheon are associated with the sea instead of fire (edit) :There is also Mot their death god who's realm is a filthy swamp. i was just wondering if it would be of interest to you. As coming by a non biased source on this subject is difficult.

Before Mohammed there a goddess called al alaat the ummayad and the abassides changed it masculine god to al lah so if you deduct the al so laat or kah is the name cause al is an article allaat or Allah it’s all fake
