If you are noticing any of your vegetables being eaten there's a good chance that it's the cabbage worm. Cabbage moths lay their eggs on the underside of leaves and then within a few days the worms start eating holes in all of your plants. It's especially common with plants in the brassica family. So I suggest putting up a hoop house with insect netting! It's super simple and very effective.

I purchased three (25 piece) large kits and it was enough to build my long row that was 3.5 feet wide by 30 feet long. As well as my raised bed that was 4.5 feet wide by 10 feet long and I had a few pieces to spare.

I bought and installed the same hoops and mesh, then I wondered if the mesh would let the winter rain through so I could turn off the drip and save water. Since my main problem is birds I could put a mesh with bigger holes on the hoops. What do you think Audrey?

The fiberglass poles all cracked on mine within a week. I tried small hoops and tall hoops without any success. I need to do metal, the fiberglass didn’t last in AZ.

Before covering, inspect the backs of the leaves for eggs the cabbage moths lay, otherwise, they’ll hatch into worms and have a chewing party in the hoop house. 🥴 The eggs look like grains of cornmeal.
