How to Pick a Statement Piece | NYC Fashion

So one of the great, sort of stylist tricks of the trade is a statement piece. You know when you're shopping and you don't have a lot of money, one way to make your wardrobe go really, really far is to spend your money on a few statement pieces.

Buy things in, you know, everyday wear. Your jeans, your dresses, your blouses that aren't super expensive but are simple. And that way you can sort of splurge on a nice bag or a nice pair of shoes or even just a bunch of jewelry and that can be your statement piece.

One of the things to do obviously. One of the things every closet needs is a pair of great, black pumps. In this case, we have a big splurge but a beautiful pair of Christian Louboutin black pumps. Louboutin you know from the red sole. That's sort of his trademark. And what these shoes do is they are going to make any outfit look really classy and really, really elegant.

You know, I could wear these with a black pair of jeans and a t-shirt. You could wear them with a little black dress that you had to wear to work and you really wanted to dress up. And that's the time to take a statement piece and really sort of make something. Add a little glamour to your outfit.

So a great pair of heels. You know maybe a little peep toe. But something that's going to be really classic. In this case the black patent leather. The peep toe pump. It's never going to go out of style and you can wear it with almost anything. And that's where you want to go with a statement piece.

The same idea is a bag. If you gonna get a statement bag stick with a color that's relatively neutral. A black, a camel. You could even go if you want to live a little dangerously maybe with a red or a bright, sort of opaque color. And then you want to buy something that's really, really well made. So it's totally fine to splurge. You just want to make sure it's a nice, solid leather and maybe there's, you know, some really good hardware that it's gonna last for a long time. And that's where your statement bag comes in because you can wear it for the rest of your life.

That's really something that you can even have handed down. I have bags from my grandmother that, because they were so well made, they're still around and they're still in great shape. And I'll wear them when I want to sort of spice up an outfit.
