I'm amazed he mentioned Kevin keegan because while listening to this I remember a story the former irish football commentator Jimmy magee now deceased had about keegan..
He also was taken by how long keegan spent signing autographs
So much so he asked keegan how come he made sure every kid had their autograph before they left and keegan told him as a youngster he waited outside a ground for one of his hero's autographs and when the guy came out he just ignored him and walked off ..
Keegan said he made a promise to himself that if he ever was lucky enough to become a pro footballer he would never do that to anyone ..

Martin keown, parlour, adams etc used to stop and sign everything at the Arsenal training ground. Leaves a massive impression on youngsters

Patrice Evra talks about how after a pre-season friendly the United players were too tired to sign autographs so they skipped the fans. SAF signed each one, came onto the bus and gave them the hairdryer treatment. SAF said fans show up to see them, pay their salaries etc and made them all get off the bus and interact with the fans.

I think it was 1975 when Celtic toured Australia, I was 14 watching them train across the road from their hotel at local ground. There was only a handful of people watching, at the end of training Their coach Jock Stein came up to me and asked if I wanted players autographs, I said yes and gave him a book out of my school bag.20 minutes later he crossed the road from the hotel back on to where I was and handed me my book with every player’s signature, what a legend.

They say never meet your heroes! It broke my heart to see that little boy waving and calling out their names to be totally snubbed.

wearing head phones is just an excuse to not be bothered.

These players don't deserve the fans that cheer them on every game.

I grew up in an era where the majority of football players from my club (Man Utd) would always stop to sign autographs for kids. To be fair to Martin Keown, I also witnessed the Arsenal squads of the mid to late 90's signing loads of autographs for fans when they visited Old Trafford for games. It makes such a big difference to kids and even looking back now it fills me with joy remembering the times I was able to get the autographs of these wonderful players. The fact that modern day players even need to be told to engage with fans, rather than wanting to do it of their own accord, speaks volumes about their selfishness and about how detached from reality they've become.

I remember standing outside ninian park waiting to see the great john toshack. He and the rest of the players waited until all the autographs were signed. Classy. The top players have total contempt for the fans.

Kevin Keegan as Newcastle manager told the players to engage with the fans as they are the ones are the ones paying their wages. They regularly went to the children's wards at the local hospitals .

I was 8 years of age and was living in Malta as my dad was in the army. It was 1971 and Man City were playing against a Maltese team in Europe. The City players were staying at the Golden Hotel in Sleima. Every single player was brilliant to me including the manager Malcolm Allison and players such as Francis Lee, Tony Book, Willie Donachie, Joe Corrigan and Ian Mellor. They all gave their autographs to me and were absolutely fantastic. There was one player, Tommy Booth who refused. I can understand. The players were in the bar, relaxing but I've never forgotten it. My Dad died this year and I found in his bedroom press cuttings from the local paper of me with Willie Donachie and Joe Corrigan. For some reason the fact a player did not give me his autograph stays with me. I would like to thank all of those City players who gave me great memories.

Fans pay players vastly over priced wages players should be kneeling and begging for forgiveness. Without fans there would be no professional players fact

Remember years ago at Chelsea training ground - Zola, Vialli, Gullit staying behind and sign everything for the fans. Must have been there for an hours. Not even a CFC fan but that was awesome.

Following players around everywhere is a bit creepy in my opinion.

Alot more footballers could learn a thing or 2 on this from Jack Grealish. Absolute top lad.

Those fans have travelled a long way from Leeds & have done for most of the season to watch this team lose many games. Those fans contribute to their wages so at the very least appreciate that they are there supporting you through thick & thin.

It's the new age of footballers with their smartphones & headphones before & after game's.
