I no longer wonder because I’m seeing first hand how a society descends into madness.

A South Korean friend if mine told me years ago, that even the "free" north Koreans are subject to travel restrictions. If you ride the train, a soldier may ask where you're going and if your reason isn't good enough they can turn you back.

We are very close to something like this in Canada these days.
