104-Year-Old Seeks 'Assisted Death': 'I Am a Bit Sorry to Say Goodbye'

David Goodall is traveling from his home in Australia to Switzerland. There, the retired scientist will meet with doctors who will help the 104-year-old to end his life. "Once one passes the age of 50 or 60, one should be free to decide for oneself, whether one wants to go on living or not," Goodall says. He plans to take his own life with the help of Swiss doctors. "Assisted voluntary death" is legal in that country, unlike Goodall's native Australia. #InsideEdition

I can't say I blame this guy. He's been alive for over a century. I'm sure he's seen better days and life has basically lost it's appeal. He's been successful and seen things that none of have seen before so he's done with this experience we call life. He's courageous yet tired - I get it.

If I decide to take myself out I'm going to do it in the manliest way possible . Jump out of a plane strapped to a bomb riding a shark into the mouth of a volcano.

He’s tired of living and that’s completely understandable. There’s not much left to do when you have already lived 104 years of life. I don’t even want to live to 90.

He sounds English! The Australian accent has changed so much in 100 years.

So many people wish to live to 100, but never come close. This guy is a 100 and just wants to die. Life has a interesting way of working sometimes.

When a terminally ill patient or an elderly person reaches that end stage, it is not a comfortable stage. The heart becomes weak as it prepares to stop. Complications of breathing and fluid around lungs begin to complicate matters. The body is in pain and the patient suffers. Death is certain. Perhaps medical intervention can make the shutting off stage a little peaceful. Hats off to this gentleman for identifying this important issue.

My great grand uncle lived to be 102 and at his very last birthday on Earth he said that he was tired of living too. All his sisters and brothers had already died and he said he felt like a burden on younger relatives. Anyone that age should be given the choice to let go if they want to. Euthanasia should be legal for quite a few circumstances actually.

It’s actually not sad. I would feel blessed if I have the courage to make such difficult decision at the end of my own life.

Fare-the-well old man, after 104 years you've earned the rest.

Assisted suicide should be legal, people should be allowed to have a right to end their life.

The poor guy is 104 years old and is probably bored and fed up being around for so long. He's seen the world, he's published books, he's done a lot in his life and now he just wants to finally rest in peace.

Doctors and scientists and professors have said that immortality is probably far more worse than death and will eventually lead you to insanity, no-one wants to live forever and whilst everyone else dies.

I can't believe he has lived this long though, I don't want to live forever but I would however want to live upto my 100s at least, I want to know his secret.
