I started memorising the Qur'an at a young age, but I became more serious about it and joined a madrasah at 9 yrs old. 2 years and 10 juz later, I realized that I wasn't understanding much of what I was memorising, so I started reading the translation of every new page I memorised. I later started searching for word to word translations, and I learned a lot of new words. A lot of words and phrases are repeated in the Qur'an, so it becomes easier as you go.(Also I had taken Arabic classes before joining the madrasah, so I knew a little bit about it.) Alhamdullilllah 2 years later I finished memorising the Qur'an, and I understood a good amount of what I used to recite.
The best option would be to try to manage both, but not everyone can. Personally, I have met a lot of huffath in my life, and there are some that are absolutely amazing people, who have such good character and conduct. You can't help but look up to them. and I have met some that are an absolute disgrace. They commit every type of sin, and don't even pray 5times a day. Both groups have memorised, but what creates this huge gap is the fact that one group has ilm and understands and one group doesn't.
My advice would be to start understanding the Surahs that you have already memorised. The more you understand the Qur'an, the more you will love it, and the more you love the Qur'an the more efforts you will make to memorize it insha'Allah.
If you have the dedication for it, Allah will hand it over to you.
However, if you don't intend to memorize, the least you can do is revise what you already know.
Revising the Qur'an and understanding it are 2 things that you can never be done with.
May Allah make us from Ahl Al Quran.

Memorizing the Qur’an, contemplating, and learning its miracles is " the project of a lifetime" . Praise be to Allah, I completed memorizing ten parts in four months and, God willing, I will finish it within this year, and I' ll study about its miracles. Thanks and may Allah bless and reward you " FreeQur'aanEducation " for the reminder..

Mashallah- beautiful message! I'll focus now on understanding the Qur'an most, plus the paedophilia thing that you added- super necessary now, brother! Never leave any of your children alone with a non mehram, doesn't matter how pious they appear!!

I think it's not important memorizing it, the most important thing is to understand it and read in it every day.

In most cases, the reason for unsatisfactory results of learning a foreign language is a loss of interest in the student, or you have stopped at some stage of their training and began to "stomp in one place. Thus, the effort and time you have spent in the absence of new techniques will not allow progress in mastering the language. For example, if you spend your time and effort learning the alphabet for months on end, you will not learn to read, write, speak and understand the spoken and written language. Yuriy Ivantsiv in his book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign language" writes that you should not selectively stop at one thing, and try to gradually move forward, without skipping anything and not jumping, developing all the necessary language skills for you proportionally. Only then will you get effective results. In your strategy for learning any information for you, including a foreign language, you should adhere to the following principle: you made a breakthrough - mastered the new information, then you need to take the time to consolidate the material and bring it to automaticity. The next step - learn new material and master it, and so on. "There are no secrets to success. It's the result of good preparation, hard work, and learning from your mistakes." Colin Powell. Many thanks to the author of the channel for the tremendous work in creating the instructional video. Thanks to such helpful videos, we have rapid progress in language learning.
