I heard a theory that Tom might be related to whoever killed Maria. His family has been living in Green Hills for over 50 years. Maddie said so in the movie, just like Project Shadow since it’s over 50 years old. That would add so much to the franchise instead of Tom just being pushed to the sidelines!

Fun fact, in Japan the movie is being titled, "Sonic x Shadow: Tokyo Mission".

The biggest theory seems to be that Tom is related to Maria's killer. If this is true, then Tom will be particularly important in the movie.

Honestly I always assumed Shadow in the games could use his Chaos powers without a Chaos Emerald anyway. They only amplify his powers, but this ability was always innate. There are times when he uses them without having a Chaos Emerald on-hand and the games are rather shaky on whether or not he can use his powers with a Chaos Emerald or not.

SA2 _implies_ its because he's using the Chaos Emerald directly when he first shows up, but keep in mind, Shadow can use Chaos Control even during the final Sonic vs Shadow fight despite not having a Chaos Emerald on hand. Sonic has a fake Chaos Emerald here, but Shadow doesn't have one. Six of the seven emeralds are already on the Cannon's Core, and Eggman only just acquired the seventh, so Shadow literally cannot have a Chaos Emerald during this fight.


Shadow can also use Chaos Control in Shadow the Hedgehog before he even acquires the first Chaos Emerald. In Sonic Heroes, canonically nobody has Chaos Emeralds until acquiring them through the Special Stages, but for some reason Team Dark's Chaos Inferno still has him holding one in his hand, which is weird.


Sonic Battle does something similar; Shadow has a personal Chaos Emerald the entire game, and only gives it to Emerl right at the end, to justify why he can still use his powers. But you can still fight Shadow with his full abilities even after Shadow gives Emerl the Chaos Emerald.

I think we might see Metal Sonic in this movie and Eggman will reveal him in the end. It can be surprise for fans, like how we got Super Sonic agaisnt Robotnik but this time its Robotnik who's gonna show up with his own Metal Sonic.

I have always thought if Amy Rose isn’t in this, it would be cool to have her in the end credits. She lives in Japan and sees Sonic, Tails and Knuckles fighting Shadow or whatever happens at the end of the movie on a TV somewhere at a store. She’s maybe shopping in Tokyo or somewhere in Japan. She sees Sonic and is stunned to see someone like her when she thought she was the only one around like him. She’s sees how strong and fast he is and feels like she needs to meet him! I just love the idea of her living in Japan since it kind of fits her style and come on, she would totally live there! :)

The part where you talk about Shadow using chaos control after escaping from the pod isn't Chaos control, but chaos snap. I just wanted to point that out, and shadow is made from the chaos drives that are made from the chaos emeralds

The Chaos emeralds may be used to enhance the powers of chaos control, even in the games its somewhat implied Sonic and Shadow have chaos energy in them since they have the innate ability to harness the Chaos Emeralds.

Shadow may have needed the emeralds at first in the games due to his long time in stasis and memory loss.

Not sure how eggman uses the master emerald to become super robotnik in the 2nd movie though.

Okay so I know the movie has its own rules but shadow can teleport without an emerald it's just not as far. He is imbued with chaos energy at all time and is deeply intertwined with chaos energy.
