In this episode of {THE AND} This Week, different Asian American and Pacific Islander couples discuss their experiences in the US, over time as well as in wake of recent events. Some couples talk about specific racism that they have experienced personally while others talk about how recent attacks and events have affected themselves, and their relationships.

Each week we create space for people around the world to open up to one another as part of our greater ambition to encourage the exploration of current events through the lens of human connection. In a rapidly-shifting world, we’re happy to offer this real-time glimpse into the events of the week through {THE AND} online sessions.

To everyone who has participated openly and vulnerably in our project - we appreciate what you have shared with us and hope others do as well. {THE AND} This Week is a digital extension of our Emmy-Award winning documentary experience, {THE AND}.

At THE SKIN DEEP, we create digital doses of humanity as we continue to explore the nuances of human connection and experience while encouraging deep listening. It’s a momentous time in history, and we feel it’s necessary and much-needed to stay in touch with what makes us human as we continue to learn from our connections and lift each other up.

Had the same experience with BLM. But it comes from a good place and that’s what I care about.

Would love to see more on AAPI identities and also navigating this time of grief, rage, and everything in between

Yeah, finding acceptance is hard and it's been easier as I've gotten older but specifically when I was a teen in suburban NJ, being mixed was tough. Not asian or white enough. Being 5th generation also has an impact and I really felt the imposter syndrome comment. It's a lifelong process.

I’m perfectly fine with friends reaching out to say they’re thinking of me.

BUT a guy I messaged on Grindr expressed his sympathy and that was weird!

I think it was problematic that they started with Asian Americans are facing discrimination not felt since the Japanese internment camps since WWII. Is that really true? Asking as a black woman whose ppl have never stopped feeling discrimination since we set foot on this land.
