Carburetor Flood Control

Editor’s note: I am not sure that the numbers on the regulator represent PSI as I say in the video, they may just reflect restriction size with 1 being most restricted and 5 least restricted.

Fighting carburetor flooding issues can be frustrating. What has become more and more common these days is aftermarket mechanical fuel pumps putting out too much pressure and overcoming the needle and seat. If you can’t find your problem anywhere else, try this.

So I have a dumb question. Does the fuel pressure regulator work by having either more narrow or more open paths for the fuel to pass through?

Is it better to add the fuel pressure regulator inline before the fuel pump or after? Or does it matter?

I bought one of those fuel pressure regulators today from O'Reilly's hooked it up turn it to the line before 1 and gas was still coming out of it after I turned on my elderbrock electrical fuel pump which is only pushing 4-7 PSI. I figured the less the number was the more restriction and the more the number is the more flow but even at the line before 1 gas was still shooting out of that regulator so maybe the regulator is faulty I don't know but maybe I could take it back but it didn't work for me

Need to reset your float bowls and if they still flood the float bowl valves are sticking open too much. And on a 502 BBC calls for 6 lbs of pressure on a 750 Holly .

Couldn't you have just gotten a fuel pump that produces the proper PSI?

A regular fuel pump for caberated motor are set at the factory at 6 lbs . You are thinking way to hard . Just set your float bowls.
