What Is the Difference Between Sheeps and Goats?

Sheep and goats are among the oldest of human livestock. They have lived and walked beside us for millennia, so long that they are almost part of the furniture, as the saying goes.

But where did sheep and goats come from? How did they come to play such important roles in our lives?

More importantly, what are the differences between the two animals?

Are there any differences at all?

Stay tuned, as we answer these and more questions about our hooved friends!

I find it ironic that when they mentioned birds of prey, they just showed some song birds.

Goats seem like they’re part cat.
Very good at going their own way and getting into trouble.🙂❤️
Great video!

A key difference is how we pluralize them.

I'm glad it's narrated by a real person instead of AI text-to-speech. Mr. Lane, the effort is appreciated.

Goats make great pets if you have the land for them to browse for food between feedings. They’re barnyard clowns, full of mischief. They are the smartest in the barnyard!

7:06 “and even birds of prey”.

Shows a pair of European bee-eaters 🙄

"Goats are food for birds of prey".... Inserts a photo of a bee-eater that eats, well... bees!!!😂

Discworld’s Granny Aiken says sheep are just a bag of bones looking for ways to die.

Not all goats have a ‘beard’ by any means. Also, they aren’t always limited to low-hanging tree leaves; some will climb into the tree canopy to reach for leaves and even some fruits.

7:07- Really? THOSE two songbirds are ''birds of prey''?

Sheep family is more impressive to me. The big horn sheep can kill an adult human with the Ram’s charge. Goats are goofy 😂 but even domestics can climb mountains like their mountainous cousins!

@1:43, as you correctly point out the plural of sheep is sheep. So why does your title say Sheeps??

Oh, the difference?. I'll tell you. The difference between sheep and goats is that 1 makes a noise when it's being stolen and one just shuts the hell up.😢😅 that's why only have goats😂

Simple way to tell them a part, sheep will fluff up when they are rinsed in fabric softener, goats do not.

A pretty-good description, other than the "sheeps" in the title. We've raised goats and sheep for 20 years. We've had both wool sheep (which don't usually have the long guard hairs) and now hair sheep. There are also some wool sheep, such as Shetlands, that at least partially shed their wool. Sheep, at least domestic ones, tend to carry their tails down and many aren't that bright. They can be rather dull in intelligence, and they strongly flock together. Lambs like to stay close by mom. When sheep fight, they often ram each other, running straight ahead. A bottle-fed ram can be extremely dangerous, as he loses all fear of humans can can turn aggressive during the breeding season. Goats tend to be smarter, curious, and very personable. They learn their names fairly easily. Most have hair, although Angoras have long hair called mohair and cashmere goats have an extremely fine downy undercoat that is made into luxury fabric. Domestic goats usually have horns, but there are some that are naturally hornless (polled.) It was once said that two polled goats breeding would result in deformed offspring, but that might now be disproven. In any case, many owners dehorn their goats to prevent them from hurting other goats, the owners, or getting their heads caught. When goats fight, the males (especially) take time posture on their hind legs and then come down to crash heads (which is why if a sheep and goat fight, the sheep will often win.) Domestic goats USUALLY carry their tails up (except for angora goats.) Goats can graze, but are very good at standing on their hind legs to browse tree leaves and vines. Perhaps because they were adapted to this, they don't have as strong of parasite (worm) resistance as do some sheep. Goats are herd animals, but are a little more independent than sheep. Some domestic goats, such as Nigerian Dwarfs, have multiple sets of kids a year. They frequently have twins, although triplets are not uncommon. We've had goats have up to five kids at a time, although this isn't good and the kids are often too tiny to survive. Mother goats usually leave their young kids hidden somewhere while mom goes to browse, and older kids are very attached to their siblings and friends. In either case, there are few things cuter than a baby goat or lamb.

I DID NOT need to watch this and yet I made it to the end.

Goats will eat your clothes if you stand too close to them!

Sheep are also milked extensively and were possibly the first domestic animals to be milked. I founded and own the first and only sheep dairy in Alabama where I make sheep milk dulce de leche. Some of the very best cheeses in the world are made from ewe's milk. Pecorino Romano, Feta, Halloumi, Roquefort, Manchego and Wensleydale are only a few. The milk itself is extraordinarily rich and has a sweet taste.

Don't assume all domestic sheep are cute and placid, in April this year an elderly couple in New Zealand were killed on their property by a ram which escaped from next door .

Good videa; but I think mountain goats deserved honourable mention, even if only to point out that they aren't actually goats at all.
