"I'd bring normal animals."

That's why this guy is sitting there. America deserves more of this eloquence, honesty and acceptance.

As a white American woman, married to a South African and living in Cape Town, I agree and we have basically said the same thing for the past 7 years of living here. We love Trevor and I am thrilled that the US has adopted him so readily!! On the other hand...Please come back!

When comedians are way more intelligent than politicians you know something isn't right.

I love Trevor. He has a great way of bring up issues with race and equality without it being too harsh for white ppl to listen and maybe understand.

The first step in fixing any mistake ever done, is to accept it.

Being smart isn't enough, I'm so glad Trevor has the wisdom to see through the transparent problems around racism, really having a convo about it, ain't easy still after it believe me you will connect with that nope we either make it worst or get offended

How about the way South Africans always greet each other.
I always said hello when I sat next to someone on the train when I lived in London.
They thought I was weird.

White Americans- “I wasn’t there!”

Trevor- “I didn’t say you were there. I just said slavery happened.”

White Americans- “Yeah but I swear I wasn’t there!”

Trevor- “Dude, your 37. Calm down.”

I feel like this is how a lot of conversations between whites and minorities go when it comes to addressing the crimes against humanity in our country’s past. They need to stop feeling guilty for what happened in the past and start actually addressing the social problems and ills that exist today that are a result of that heinous past. Ignoring the root causes of present problems does not allow us to fully heal. It does not honour those in the past who suffered or those still suffering to brush over uncomfortable topics because it was your dead relatives who did bad things.

The reason that Americans don’t want to talk about slavery is because the government does not want to take responsibility for slavery or any of the racist policies and ACTIONS that followed it.

I find it really cool that he answers this question like a conversation to the person who asked it. He’s not just receiving the question and then talking like a lecturer, he’s maintaining eye contact. I appreciate that a lot.
