If you shampoo it a couple of times with a non color protector shampoo, you should be able to mellow that orange. That's what I did when my hair color went a funky color and it mellowed more smoothly.

If that was a direct dye, you could have diluted it with some conditioner.

Some brands sell a product for this purpose, but for direct dye, conditioner is fine (would absolutely NOT work with regular hair dye that requires developer - don’t confuse the two! It won’t be pretty)

That’s also a great way to build dimension with direct dye. Have 3 bowls: one with the full strength dye, one a bit diluted, one even more diluted. Apply in sections as thick or thin as you out desire.

But if nothing else:
1. Stand test baby!
2. Use a timer! Don’t guess. You have a phone, set a timer AND start the stop watch when you apply the first drop of dye.

Try a conditioning mask with some drops of arctic fox purple af or poseidon and keracolor espresso or mocha or the new brown shade by manic panic. This will take the bright orange and tone it to that rich copper. Just be careful not to add too much or you will end up with plum or brunette hair. Hope this helps. 🧡
