_______________________________

Hey guys - today we're heading to Japan for the first time!
I always get a lot of requests from you guys asking to do a case from your country - I’d love to try and start doing more cases from all around the world and not just the UK and the US, so please keep the requests coming in!
This case received a lot of media attention in Japan because the killer was only 11 years old. And because of this the case became a bit of an internet sensation and even turned into a meme!
As always please let me know your thoughts and opinions & thanks for watching! xoxo

Hi my name is Danielle, welcome to my True Crime and Makeup series! I’ve been interested in true crime for the longest time now, what started with me watching true crime on TV with my Nan from a young age eventually turned into studying for a degree in Law & Criminology.
When I first watched Bailey Sarian’s Murder Mystery Makeup Monday series I was completely hooked, I loved how she had combined two of the things I’m most passionate about and delivered it so well. She totally inspired me to take the leap and do the same thing on my channel, so all credit for the idea goes 100% to her.
I’m from the UK and will be covering cases from both the UK and internationally, let me know if there are any cases that you’d like to see from me! More cases will be coming soon so please subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

The way some adults would rather ignore the HUGE warning signs, instead of facing them head on infuriates me. My daughter had a classmate in 3rd grade that told her he wanted to kill her. We ofcourse brought it to the school's attention. We weren't even allowed to be a part of the conversation about how it was being handled. We were just told it would be dealt with. They put him in another class. That's it. Needless to say, we did not continue going to that school. People need to stop thinking it won't get serious. There is so much mental illness in the world and it does not discriminate by age!

honestly it’s so disrespectful and rude to the victims family to make memes and “cosplay” as this girl like what the hell.. imagine someone you knew got murdered and you go on the internet just to find that the person who killed them is getting praised and getting literal manga panels drawn of her..?? so fucked up

what made me uncomfortable from the beginning was the way people were literally cosplaying this girl. she isn’t an anime character or a character from a movie, she’s a murderer.

You mentioned you didn't know how she got a box cutter. I actually have an answer for you! This is a cultural difference. It's not uncommon for japanese students to sharpen their pencils with box cutters throughout their school year. It's something frequently depicted as normal for them. Pencil sharpeners are uncommon. Hope that helps!

The way you described the nature vs. nurture thing is basically exactly what psychology as a field has come to as the answer to this one. They have a phrase for it, "genetics loads the gun and environment pulls the trigger." And that's usually pretty accurate.

it honestly sounds like everything combined drove her insane; the isolation, leading to loneliness, she probably depended on Satomi a lot during that time, but i guess by following her mom's rules and studying, it gave Satomi time away to be around people who probably didn't like her and she was influenced. Nevada then getting into something creepy and scary probably drove them further away than Nevada assumed, leading to Satomi disliking her. I mean, she didn't even trust Nevada enough to close her own eyes around her! Realizing she lost all her friends, probably due to intense bullying (probably on the court too, which is why she quit basketball again) clearly drove her insane. She was probably severely depressed and needed help but Japan isn't big on mental health care from what i remember :( I'm no psychologist but this is just what i think.

I don’t understand why they associate Navada and sitomi as “close friends” because Navanda was basically being cyber bullied and that drove her anger. It does not justify to murder of course but they obviously were not close friends as there was enough tension there for mean comments and murder.

I don’t agree with the comparison of Paris and Nevada. Paris was unprovoked and committed s*xual a$$ault on his sister and revenge killed her to hurt his mother out of spite, whereas Nevada was responding to bullying (still doesn’t excuse murder) so completely different scenarios other than they were both above average intelligence, which isn’t a similarity worth mentioning.

Danielle: I can’t watch horror movies my imagination goes wild

Also Danielle: Perfectly blends her eye shadow as she tells us about another murder story

Satomi's father was a single dad who had already lost his wife and now had to deal with the loss of his daughter. Imagine how he must have felt if he realized that the internet was making a joke out of his child's murder.

I think a lot of her becoming an internet meme has to do with the fetishization of Asian women/girls, especially school girls. It's pretty gross. RIP to Satomi.

So...
Her mother makes her quit an extracurricular activity that she loves and that provides her social interaction because her grades are failing (even though she's a literal genius with an IQ of 140) just to keep her in her room doing schoolwork... Yet she fails to remove the television from her bedroom and she just spends that time watching horror movies. 🤔
Her mother doesn't realize that she's watching movies all day instead of doing work, which was the whole reason she was in there?? This just seems strange to me. If she was letting her keep her TV in her room she may as well just kept letting her play basketball. I'm sure with an IQ of 140, she had no worries that her child wasn't smart.

Hi. I’ve been watching your channel, and I absolutely love how informative your vids are! Also thank you for including a case from Japan! I am Japanese, and I can probably add some notes to this particular case:

1. I don’t know the rest of the world, but it wasn’t uncommon to make your own website back in early 2000s Japan. I used to have one when I was in middle school, and it was my sister who was in elementary school at that time who taught me how. Contents were usually reviews of films/music or pictures you’ve drawn. I read Nevada included some written contents similar to Battle Royal.

2. I don’t know if you avoided it because it was so gory or info was simply not out there in English, but the injury on Satomi’s neck was 10cm depth, and her bones were exposed on her hands.

3. Nevada graduated from the elementary school because there was no way to pull children out of the system. Education is considered as adult’s responsibility (parents and municipalities’ in this case). It is literally impossible to expel kids under 9th grade. It is really the matter of where she graduated from, which in this case, she remained registered at her original school instead of the institute she went to after the incident, which is also considered as a specialized school. Looks like more info is available on this topic in this book by Atsuko Kusanagi, but I haven’t had a chance to read it.

As for case suggestions from Japan, you should definitely do Kobe murder. I know the case is horrifying as you mentioned in this vid, but it was an absolute shock in 90s. Nevada wasn’t as shocking to us simply because Sakakibara incident was far worse. (Not that Nevada incident wasn’t bad.)
Also Tokyo subway attack by a cult Aum Shinrikyo in 1995. This one was so big I still hear people talk about it almost 30 years after the incident.

Keep up the good work anyway! Looking forward to watching more of your vids!

As you said Danielle, she was bullied by that "friend". At 11 she can't process the emotions associated with that betrayal, so she acts out. Acts out is mild. Bullying does irreparable psychological damage. Lots of teens are driven to suicide because they are so badly bullied.

This is a really sad case.. Kids can die by suicide because of bullying so I'm guessing that they can also go ahead and kill their bullies instead. Still a very sad case regardless.

“Moral of the story; kids are mean!” AMEN!

Violent media such as movies, tv, video games inspire methods but the motivation lies within the person and their impulse control. This child killed because she was being bullied and had no genuine outlet to express her emotions. She was very bright but she was still a child and probably unable to process all the violence was consuming.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at 6 (though I prefer to just call myself autistic now) and I got really into slasher movies and Creepypastas at an extremely young age, which included horror fanart and violent fanfics. At no point did I ever even hypothetically consider ending someone elses life, and I was bullied very heavily as a kid. I self-harmed, but I would've never sought to harm another. At most I would shove people away in self-defense.

They weren't close friends! They hadn't been friends in ages! The fact that even after learning Satome had been bullying Nevada, Satome's father still insisted on calling them close friends really makes me wonder just how much he knew about his daughter and her friends. They had been friends a few years before, but they obviously had a falling out and Satome was bullying Nevada. Did Satome never talk to her father? Did she continue pretending to be Nevada's friend while bullying her? Cuz that's... Actually, that would be in keeping with a lot of bullying.

As someone who has been bullied (albeit not violently), I never considered any of my bullies to be my friends. The continued insistence on calling them close friends just really glosses over what bullying is and the harm it causes. Another term for bullying is harassment. And anyone who's been harassed knows just how much it can affect you. I've been sexually harassed and non-sexually harassed at workplaces - but at least I was paid to go there. When I was being bullied in school, there was no reward, no positive side to it - and I had no option to get away either. When I was being harassed at work, I was looking for another job (and yes, I eventually found one and got TF out of there. I also called the District Manager on his cell phone and let him know there was something going on - lots of inventory discrepancies).
