Funnily enough, my grandmother used to tell me how she saw pinocchio in 1941 (italian release date). And it was quite popular in italy. The duce was quite a fan

For the premiere Disney hired some dwarf actors to dress as pinocchio to stand on the roof of the cinema. They got some beer as it was a hot day. A little while later there were several drunk naked people screaming obscenities down at the crowd.
