I check your you tube at times as my second son in year 10 in Sydney. I have no words to thank you and I really appreciate your wonderful work. God bless you.

Mr. Tarrou, this is the "bestiest" factoring lesson I've ever had! Thanks a zillion! Best regards from Brazil!

AMAZING!!! You seriously are a Math God! I cannot believe how great you are at doing math and more importantly TEACHING it. It's been 10 years since I sat in a high school Algebra class, never really grasping what I was doing, barely passing, and now over half way through my first semester in college. I was actually doing pretty good to my surprise, actually learning things I  never understood, even got a B on my last exam. I couldn't believe it, but the past two weeks have been a complete frustrating blur. After we just learned the distribute property (which actually was pretty easy for me), she dropped the "factoring bomb" on us all. Myself and a few other students were so confused and just couldn't grasp the concept. I searched for factoring videos and my life changed when I seen you teach the grouping factor! It clicked! You deserve a million awards and medals! I know because of you thousands of students have been able to pass their classes, and I am praying I will be one of them. I know its gonna be a very rough few weeks for myself and  half of the student population  in the world. I just can't thank you enough. You really are changing peoples lives. Thank you so much ProfRobBob for all the time and effort you put in to teach the rest of us who are not lucky enough to be in the classroom learning with your lucky students. Because of you I really believe I can pass this class and for that I cannot thank you enough. Be blessed my friend. :) :) :)

It seems you are passionate about becoming a good teacher!!! That is awesome. I hope you love your job when you graduate. Do a lot of observations, volunteering at school, etc as you go through college to make sure are going to enjoy teaching. I love it:):):)

You are the bomb! I'm taking precalc as a prelude to calc I and calc II (premed student) and as a nontraditional student who has not had algeba in 24 years, your simple explanations help me immensely! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Oh, and did I say Thank You!! Keep 'em coming!

If you were factoring to solve an equation you could first multiply both sides of the equation by -1. If you are only factoring an expression, you could factor out a -1 and leave it out front...then continue to factor. -1(x^2-2x-24) then factors to -1(x-6)(x+4)

I've had 3 different teachers try and explain this to me and you're the only one that made sense. Thanks!

The last group factor should be ( x - 5 ) * ( 3x + 4 )

Professor RobBob, thank you for a solid understanding of Factoring and its overall impact on mathematics in general. Factoring is important in all levels of Science and Engineering.

I agree. When I was in high school factoring a problem like that was just trial and error and it stinked. I first saw this method when I was tutoring and student and he showed me how to do this. It was in his textbook.

2y can be factored from your first group and -5 from the second. 2y(3x+1)-5(1+3x). Since addition is commutative the order can be changed to 2y(3x+1)-5(3x+1). Now your first and second term both have a factor of 3x+1, that can be factored out to give you (3x+1)(2y-5)! BAM!!! Thank you for watching and I know you are going to do great on that test and in college:)

I have never liked to do math, but with the help of your videos I am starting to appreciate more. I enjoy the way you explain things. You make complex problems simple... Thank You!! I will tell my class about your videos!

Absolutely. The TI-NSPIRES are awesome for a Statistics class especially too but they are not as durable as the 83's:) I have had a good number of students by used graphing calculators.

Thank you so much! I have struggled with factoring, taking college algebra for the first time in 8 years and I need a lot of review which my class doesn't have time for! Really appreciate the information, especially on factoring trinomials with a leading coefficient other than 1! That was a cool trick that I did not know 😀
