Nice, I use the DS-1 for bass distortion as well. It sounds great and does everything I need it to.

I love using this on my bass because I can get a cliff Burton kinda sound out of it

I'm using the DS1 as a booster for my Fender Jazz, I solved the problem of lack of volume, it's a fantastic pedal

I love taking a guitar disto pedal (in particular, a Klon-circuit pedal) and putting it in front of a bass amp for recording! The sounds one can get from a guitar pedal is just so much more natural and interesting than the bog-standard buzzsaw-bass pedal like the Boss ODB. All you need is a bass, a DI box, a guitar distortion pedal and a bass amp. Get a touch of low-end from the DI (the filters inside a guitar pedal remove a ton of bass) and crank the gain up on the pedal.

Peter Steele used to use this pedal and a boss ce2

With a blend knob this would be awesome.

I like the sound with the tone knob backed off

The x-blender from Xotic is a great solution to pedals that you like but still want to blend an unaffected signal. It works pretty good with the DS-1, too. I am in no way affiliated with either product, just someone who uses both.

i own BOSS ODB3 (overdrive for bass), and BOSS DS1, combined they sound really great. Unique sound, so i recommend trying that combination before you buy something expensive. im not saying that is better than darkglass or something, just saying it has many really interesting options.

Ladies and Gentlemen say what you will.. I have never owned one but!
I saw Vanilla Fudge some years back in Ft. Laud and Tim Bogart was playing through one into an SVT.
I was leaning on the stage so close enough
If Tim uses it then I really should have one!

I have this one. Use it before a Boss Bb1x that also works like a preamp. So I have my low end as it should be. Perfect combination between the two mentioned pedals.

one of the coolest dirty bass tones ive heard

I use this pedal sending the signal to the Behringer pré-amp with drive on. The result of distortion + drive is awesome!

Sounds a lot like the Darkglass, without the bottom end.

if you crank the tone knob, try humbuckers and, after fiddling with the bass’s knobs a bit, you’ll eventually find a fuzzy, almost synthy tone... like the prodigy’s “invaders must die” intro.

You're a great bassist, man. Thank you. Esp the ending where you come full on. I actually don't think it's any more thin than the sansamp variety. We have eq and rabbits up sleeves, so...seems like a good investment. :)

I have a Boss DS-1 the 1st thing I noticed is it gives my bass more body and more feeling

All bass need to be played with distortion. It should be a universal law.

I like to use an old DS-1 on my bass pedalboard for some fun effects. As for bass OD or distortion, I like to use the Swollen Pickle and the Bass Soul Food. Check those out!
