THE BEST BOSS DS-1 MOD FOR BASS!!!

Modding a pedal like the Boss DS-1 isn't that hard. If you've practised your soldering skills, this mod shouldn't be a problem. If you switch 11 components, you get a really nice sounding and versatile Bass-Overdrive sound. i really recommend this mod!

Just finished applying these mods. Still a LOT of distortion, even at minimum. But definitely as advertised -- it beefs up the overall tone, and it's got great clarity. Rock solid. I probably should have put in a switch to remove the diodes from the circuit entirely -- would have been very easy (Just an spst), and would add an additional tonal option. I didn't have any small caps, but everything fit comfortably, so this wasn't tricky to get everything to fit. Thanks again for the project and detail!

I gotta do this! Funny enough, the DS-1 is the only distortion pedal I was ever actually happy with aside from the drop in low in when engaging the pedal (so I’d keep the tone rolled all the way to the left). I’ve tried many different pedals over the years, from $300 EHX to the Boss Bass Overdrive (which is garbage IMO). Only thing that has come close to my personal taste is the Ibanez Bass Tube Screamer (which is more of an overdrive, and I can’t get the cutting bite like the DS-1). Thank you for posting!

hey man, i have a question for you. i saw this video a few weeks ago and wanted to try this on my ds-1 i had laying around for fun, and wanted to know if the voltages of the capacitors, rather than ohms, mean anything? i have never done anything like this before, so i have no idea what is important. anyway, great mod my man, really kick ass

Hey, the modded version sounds so good. I have the components to try it but the capacitors I've got are ceramic. It's there any problems or risks from using ceramic instead of film capacitors?

I dunno if it's my speakers, or my ears, or both, but I'm having a hard time hearing the differences. The modded one sounds perhaps a bit darker and probably a bit boosted in its output? More menacing?
