Growing up on Metallica and seeing them when i was 8 with cliff burton was an honor, but in 2001 or so i thought it was the end for them, James needed rehab, and they had made one of there worst but yet one of the best tracks on that album St Anger i think but i think it was that which made them stronger, to see them going strong, its unbelievable, i have seen so many bands that couldn't do it, besides Ozzy who has had many line up changes, but Metallica would still have cliff if he were still.alive, it will be a sad day when they finally just cant do it anymore, much like it might be with Ozzy, thanks Rockfeed for the great story!

Off their album cycle? Dude, we nearly lost Metallica in that brief "Hiatus". Haven't you seen "Some Kind of Monster"? Jason Quit the Focking Band, James took off to rehab, and Lars and Kirk where left alone to experiment with Ja Rule and Swizz Beatz. All this and more while James was being semi brainwashed by a sweater loving, lunatic therapist!

Thank God they got through all that.

Papa Hetfield is a giant compared to his bandmates.

For a band that have been hated on, memed at, been through different phases(especially fashionwise), it's really an amazing thing seeing them standing strong for this long. Everybody's different and that difference is one of the thing that make a band break up(when you don't know how to deal with it), but looks like they figured out a way and it make their friendship even stronger. Props to them.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Hell yeah! It's because metallica didn't want to be that typical band that brakes up when they have a problem, they wanted to still make it work, they just kneeded to figure out how. Some kind of monster, and st. Anger album really bring home that struggle, they are able to travel, and be together again without wanting to kill each other, I think that's why metallic is so relatable, not just with their music but also their struggle to make it work. It makes them more human knowing they face the same problems that everyone else faces.

Seen them twice and they seem to be good friends compared to the some kind of monster days

I can understand what they were going thru during that time, Jason left the band, & James was on the verge of losing his family, so he went to rehab, & stayed until he was confident enough to not fear taking a drink. James played it smart with rehab, these guys are geniuses anyway.

It helps that they got Trujillo in the band. Not since Cliff Burton have they had a bassist kick ass like he does. Newstead was a good musician but not a bass player that could handle Burtons ability, Trujillo can. I saw them with Burton in 86 saw them with Newstead now I have to see them with Trujillo

I thought the blank intro was a joke that Lars actually had nothing to say... maybe his insight is better than his drumming after all 😂

(I don't mean that—he's just fun to shit on)

Anyone else change the radio station when “Mandatory Metallic” comes on?

I will always be a Metallica and will always have much respect, but there are albums they had released i didn't care for like: Load and Reload and
Death Magnetic. But Hardwired For Self-Destruct was such an amazing and sounded to me like they had gone back to the days of And Justice For All.
