I had a guide bolt snap, had to drill and EZ-out the broken bit. Bought new parts just put it all back together, turned it over and "clunk, clunk, clunk", took it all apart again and checked timing by this method, put it back together and running sweet as again, great 'tip', many thanks.

Hi just changed fuel pump with locking tool, pump is coded and there are no codes showing. But fails to start. I have bleed and fuel at injectors.. could this be a timing issue thanks

Thanks so much! Just one thing I would add, in order to lock the crank I have found putting it into 5th gear and applying the handbrake or chocking the wheels, as long as your clutch is ok too, holds everything solid enough to loosen and tighten the main pulley.

A bit late to ask this, I suppose but should the chain be slightly slack or taut between the cam sprockets? The bolt holes are slightly elongated so the sprockets can be slightly rotated so either giving the chain a bit of slack or making it taut between the sprockets, thank you (is anyone still there, 10 years on!)

Hi mate. I'm currently doing the same job on a london taxi that has the same 2.4 transit engine as shown on the video. Just a quick question when taking the old chain off do the gold links have to be lined up with the mark on the cams and pump. I know when putting the new chain on the marks need to be lined up however on mine i'm trying to take off the old chain and with the locking tool in the crankshaft sensor hole and drill bits in the cams and pump the gold links on the old chain don't line up. Does this matter for taking the old chain off ?

i have a 2004 2.4 tdci which is fitted with a high pressure pump. I take it this does not need to be timed ?

I've changed inj pump and put timink like in this video.Car starts ok but lot of black smoke at 3500 rpm and blue smoke when engine's cold...The engine it's noise...a sound like possible to set wrong timing ? Or the inj pump is too advance ? It says on obd 2 advance pump ? I have an ford focom and delphi interface. Can you help me ?

Great video clip.only thing wrap the end of the drill bits with tape.one slip and you are sliced.

any one know how to timing pump as pulley was removed i put it in no1 but van still wont start [the mark on shaft is firing no1]refitted cam pull

hi, all very well using pin etc but when the pump has been changed and there's no marks on the chain to align the pump mark theres a chance the pump can be one tooth off or more. there's only a whole in the sprocket and the sprocket carrier, but no hole into the body of the pump so how can you be sure the pump timing is correct. I think the only way is to renew the timing chain and hope it has the red links to time up. an expensive excerise just for a pump failure. If you know any better way please share. hope you understand what I'm trying to get across.

Hello MrSpike i Have A Same Ford Transit Man But in Your Van You Have Timing Chain On the Front But In my Van Timing chain is on the left side I just Got Problem With My Fuel Injection Pump So I put The New One in And I put the Engine Timing Exactly As You Showed In The Video I put The same Timing But My Van Didn't Start it sounds like it that engine wants to start after a long ignition but it don't so Finely i Decided To diagnose my van when i diagnose is so then i got these code error...

Have the codes read and post or search on the ford transit forum. Those guys on there are switched on as .... Describe your symptoms on there before you strip her down. Good luck.

Hi if you have changed the pump then you will need to bleed and get rid of the air, can be involved, you also may need to go to a ford dealer and have the pump coded to the vans computer. Best thing to do is search the Ford Transit forum also free to join and start a new thread there are some very clever guys on there who will help you in no time, good luck
