The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been forced to announce that he is stepping down, after days of political turmoil.

Mr Johnson made the statement in Downing Street after more than 50 ministers resigned from his government. The final crisis for Mr Johnson began with the resignation of his Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid.

It followed a series of scandals and accusations that Mr Johnson lacked honesty and integrity and had repeatedly lied to his party and the country.

Mr Johnson said he would remain in post until a new leader is chosen by his Conservative Party. However some senior Conservatives have called on him to leave office immediately.

Huw Edwards present BBC News at Ten reporting by political editor Chris Mason.

If he is humiliated? He hides it well, all I've seen is narcissistic behaviour known & proven lies and living in an alternate universe to what he's preaching

he may be steeping down from power. But his hair has definitely been stepping up in volume.

I don't really follow politics but it really is incredible how brutal it all is. From leading the Conservatives to their biggest victory in three decades to being forced out less than three years later. It's amazing how it can all unravel so quickly.

Integrity, morals and the ability not to tell lies would be my prerequisite for a PM. Can the Conservative party find one?

Genuine question: If there was an election tomorrow, why would you vote conservative?

All the talk over HIS humilation. Most the country was being humiliated by him in the PMs position.

Can a narcissist be humiliated? His speech was pretty much I've been great and done nothing wrong but the party couldn't be persuaded to keep me in office, so I'm off.

He went back inside to tell his children it’s everyone else’s fault and their all being mean and jealous of how clever, handsome and muscular daddy is

Boris Johnson is like your creepy distant uncle that shows up on Christmas with an oddly weird haircut and a 3-day old smoked salmon under his shirt.

The speech I wanted to hear from Boris:
"I am resigning. I apologise. I have been a total prick during my time as prime minister. You'll never hear from me again. Good bye."

To those who voted for him and were surprised and appalled by his actions, you have not been paying attention!

If you vote for clowns, expect a circus

Bombastic boozing Boris bites the dust. I didn't think he's humiliated, he's already blaming someone or something else for his downfall. That pesky Darwinian system etc. He simply doesn't have the grace to go quietly.

Was that Benny Hill being blasted in the background during his speech? @ 3:47 🤣🤣🤣

"Humiliated".

No. He is NOT humiliated. He's obsessed with power. He is not concerned with anything else. This farce of continuing on in office while "a suitable replacement is found" is both ridiculous and crazy...
