Since you said that it has 400, 000 miles, THAT alone makes it a BUY. You just don't drive bad cars that far. . . . . .

I have 2008 automatic. Bought it used. Have no complaint. I don't understand why these car people always talk about "power." It's a little everyday car. You are not going to tow or race in it. It has plenty of power to go 80+ on freeway. Enough power to drive on a regular street and kill people. You can haul thing, drive people around, and do anything a regular cars do.

I own a 2008 Scion Xd 5sp, and we bought it new. It only has 108k miles on it because I bought a new car 5 years ago, so this is our 3rd car (backup). Overall, it's been pretty good to us. Outside of usual maintenance (tires, brakes, etc), we had replaced the ignition coils and had some computer work done at the dealership. The interior has held up fairly well, and it does not rattle much. The seats are not very comfortable for more than a 2-3 hour drive. There is definitely an oil consumption issue, as it started burning a quart every 2k before it had 40k miles on the odometer. The dealership wanted to reseal something (can't remember what exactly), but I think it was an engine out job, and the quote was $3, 500 for it. We passed and just add oil every 2k, and change it every 5k. We live in Portland, so the body held up quite well with no rust (West Coast car). As long as it continues to be reliable as a rarely driven 3rd car, we plan on keeping it around for a while. There are not a lot of new 4-door small hatchback manual transmission cars being produced anymore, and my wife and I like the compact utility of it.

Thanks for the review on this car! I’m planning on buying one of these for college and I managed to test drive them, and they feel comfy and reliable like most Toyotas

I lucked out and got my 2009 Xd [automatic] literally 2 days before i had to commute to college every other day!

Some folks think i paid too much for a car with 140k miles but from the lil bit of research i did on Scion, my curiosity peaked and i had to have it. So far so good- definitely needs some work and parts changed out but i figure whoever had it last didnt do too much work on it. Thats alright- its pretty easy car to learn how to repair

Just scored a 2008 with 35k miles on it with a manual transmission, only had to do a old lady's yard work for it.

I have a 2016 Scion iM, i absolutely love it. I've had multiple Lexus vehicles, so i didn't expect my Scion to wow me. It has actually won me over in a big way. It is very practical, VERY fuel efficient, FUN, flexible, and attractive! I know its just a rebadged Toyota Auris, but it handles much better than its very close cousin, the Corolla. It's not a race car, but it sticks to the road well. I average 38 highway and cannot tell you how much i appreciate that comparing it to my Lexus vehicles. Its very thoughtfully appointed, and they can be obtained below the price of a comparable Toyota platform. I would love to get a work commuter in the next couple years, and i think ill go for the xD! I always loved the way they looked and my iM has reinvigorated that interest! My Husband drives our 2009 RX350, it has been an amazingly reliable car as well. All of our prior Toyota/Lexus products have treated us very well, I'm grateful to own a final year Scion the pride we have in Toyota's quality! I'm looking forward to owning one of these as well, hatchbacks are far more practical than sedans (and that is coming from a sedan lover). You get the sedan feel, with suv practicality.❤️

I bought the 2008 version of this car for $3, 500. It had 140k miles and needed some repairs right away. So far, I’ve had to replace the motor mounts, fuel pump, clean the charcoal canister, replace the exhaust manifold, and radiator. Now it’s running well and up to par, but I’m hoping nothing else comes up because I’m already sitting at $5, 000 for this car. I feel like I got ripped off.

Mine is 2010 scion XD, about 72K miles. I have another 2017 corolla and I can say that I love the XD more than my corolla. The transmission of the XD shifts like butter, not with the 2017 corolla. The XD is more fun to drive, more compact and seems faster than my corolla.

Bought my 09 xD with 99k miles on it, chillin at 144k now. Wheel well liner came loose, and the cruise control can't handle inclines well. Otherwise the car is great. Love it dearly

have the 2008 version with 180.000 miles with the original engine and clutch, it burns about 3/4 of a quart of oil every 5000 miles so it’s not that bad, extremely reliable and I plan to keep it until it dies .

With my 2012 one Highway I do 40 miles to the gallon in Maryland and I have a manual transmission, but I like to let it glide all the time. Traffic sucks. Learn how to drive.

I bought a 2009 Scion XD with 3100 miles on it in Jan, of 2010 ...it now has 200, 000 miles on it and it still runs like it did in 2009. Aside from regular maintenance, battery changes, and car 09 XD still moves with no major issues. I was told by a mechanic my engine would last at least another 50, 000 miles since I'd been changing the oil every 4000 miles like clockwork. Im debating a new used car ...but since I've kept up on maintenance on this Scion would i want a car payment? I think I will run this car till it cant go anymore. A+++ on reliability ..it wont win any races but will get you to put A to point B
