Ryzen 6000 is not really a new generation of CPUs over the 5000 series, it just includes RDNA2 iGPU, DDR5, USB 4 and some other I/O related stuff. The CPU architecture is still Zen3 and mostly the same

Man, what impressed me most is how small the gap is between the 6800U and the high-powered parts. Crazy stuff for thin and light laptops.

this is good. Hopefully AMD punch back in the next generation.

The more companies compete, its a win win win for consumer.

The days of 4c i7's i gone. Thanks amd.

Now being serious: 6800h is efficient enough but that 12th gen i7 must be a beast for cad rendering (Revit/SketchUp/Lumion)

IMO it's mostly about the RDNA2 igpu. I've seen a couple of reviews on it and it seems that if you push the package power limit up to about 80W, the 680m igpu performs on par with a 1650. That is rather impressive and IMO what the Ryzen 6000 mobile series is all about.
Now if one OEM would make an 6800H laptop, without dgpu, but with a beefy cooling solution to handle such higher custom PPL of 80W. Then I think they'd have a nice entry level gaming notebook compared to most notebooks which lack such cooling solution.

Zen3+ doesn't look very competitive on the gaming laptop market unless their laptops are priced considerably lower than Intel models. However, their U-series laptops are now even better than what Intel offers for the same category; much better battery life, much more powerful iGPU thx to RDNA2, better power efficiency on battery

Man. I love when companies compete with each other.

This kinda shows that intel's renaming of their 10nm+ to Intel 7 is justified. They managed to outperform AMD's chips in efficiency which are on TSMC's 7nm, showing they can compete with other 7nm lithographies in efficiency and performance. Let's just hope intel 4 doesn't face delays and can be rolled out with meteor lake.

Not a surprise, few people from AMD already said in interviews that they focus on low power devices because they make almost whole laptop market these days and there is no reason from them to make (or just to spend money on development probably) on cores which would be better suited for high power models.
To be hones that make sense, even models with high end GPUs coming with high refresh rate 1440p screens and CPU is hardly a bottleneck outside of benchmark. And they probably can live with 5% customers who use them for other purposes going to Intel.
But marketing department will have hard time to explain that to average buyer and it will probably hurt sales in a long run.

I got the 6800H as I'm a european trucker so I was limited by the truck's batteries, most direct USB C DC adapters being under 100W, and without wanting to idle the engine a lot. For me 6800H with the 680M iGPU is just awesome, as it can actually play modern games while being low power, it was really important to not have a dedicated gpu. Sure there are a lot of people that don't have to care about the power requirements, but if you do AMD absoluty rules on the iGPU market. And yes it has the same driver errors that made me stop buyng AMD GPUs on desktop since I got my first job and could afford a higher class Nvidia. :P Why didn't I got the 6800U? Because it's not avaiable, I literally could find only a Vivobook 16" with the H, a 13" Asus ROG and a 14" Lenovo with the HS. It's a small wierd niche but I'm glad AMD made it and it can actually game on low or medium on 2k resolution, which in itself is a detail enhancer on a 16" screen.

I thought the real advantage of the newer mobile ryzen was not so much improved IPC but rather greatly increased battery life?

Right, no talk about battery life on any level. That seems like a bit of a misnomer in this case, given that's the entire point of Zen 3+. It's geared toward being hyper efficient, not dominating the performance bracket. At lower power, AMD dominates, which matters a lot more in the power constrained areas that laptops occupy. I recall seeing that the worst that AMD had to offer vs the best that Intel had to offer, in terms of battery life metrics, showcased a doubling of 'On-time' in AMD's favor.

Yeah, it's I guess kind of a letdown, but let's be honest, are you legit going to notice the difference between AMD and Intel in gaming? Probably not. Will you notice a difference in battery life though? Yes. Yes you will.

interesting.
so 6000u + rdna igpu seems to be where amd strength is at for this series

I would still like to see the how the igpu performs with higher power levels. I heard a lot about it being power limited.

What about TEMPERATURES? I think what expensive laptop users worry the most about are thermals.

At this time, I think we Got AMD for best Power Efficiency and High-Performance iGPU, and Intel for best High-Performance CPU. As far as i know, Ryzen 6000 series had little improvement from 5000 series, but it had a Power Efficiency Improvement, DDR5 Supports, and RDNA2 APU

98% of the people buying laptops are being bottlenecked by the gpu. I have yet to find a decent laptop that has a compute power lower than its graphics one so yeah, with the mobile 6000 Ryzen it's all about the graphics performance, and calling it dissapointing while not considering the graphics performnce is a pretty unfair to the regular people.

So, basically they made a very capable igpu, and then put it on a chip so expensive that almost nobody is going to build a laptop with it without a discrete GPU (except that one asus zenbook) ... From roadmaps, looks like they have no intention of putting the 680M in an affordable cpu so we can get cheap thin and lights with decent gaming performance, the whole reason i was excited about this generation of AMD mobile devices. ffs..

Interesting fact:
The MMVI written in the exhaust on the back is the roman numeral for 2006, when the first ROG product came out.

Amd being more efficient at lower power rates is a plus when considering the environment surely.
