For a second, I thought you were "upgrading" from Windows XP to Windows ME

My dad had an old Dell Dimension 4600 that he purchased with Windows ME (super close to the RTM date, so it was "the big thing"). He still has the old thing, and I remember him getting pissed off every time it'd crash. Then in 2004 or 2005, he upgraded it to Windows XP. Damn... he even made his original Hotmail account on Windows ME. It's so awesome to see this upgrade path again.

XP Home RTM, wow! I personally used XP Professional RTM all the way until 2006 (I had upgraded to SP2 in 2004 on one of my computers, but not the other, and had never used SP1).

The very low color depth is normal when upgrading to XP after the first reboot (same goes for the WinXP boot splash screen that uses its own 16-color palette). Not only is the first part (at 11:56) at low color, but it syncs with the normally text mode part in the background (it would only revert to text mode for the rest of the phase if it detects a missing/corrupted file).

I remember this past week on my old Toshiba laptop that I did an inplace upgrade from Windows 95 b to Windows 98 se. On sticker on the bottom of this laptop showed a date of 11/14/1998.

I actually did this back in the day on my Dell Dimension 4100. I wasn't really technically knowledgeable yet to do a clean install, so I went with the upgrade instead. While the 4100 is not the best choice for an XP machine, it was still a better experience overall than Me.

Did you know that you could play Windows Sounds on the Pipe Organ during an Allen Organ concert or at home?

I, personally, have always been skeptical of running XP on a p3 system. I always felt a Pentium III was more reserved for 98/Me/2000 than XP.

I love XP so much. The out of box experience is great (especially the music). Quick question, is version 2002 RTM? I have a box copy of XP home version 2002 and I am not sure if it is rtm. It comes with a service pack 1 cd. (PS, I'll take the skittle if your computer or the office assistant clipit doesn't want it. :P)

I'm not sure why people hate Windows ME? It was a great OS 17 years ago.

Register with Microsoft! It works only that way when activating XP in this day and age.

Could you do one maybe on Windows NT 3.5x?

Billy that looks like a loose ribbon cable if you took it apart and reinserted the ribbon cable it would probably work correctly
