After 12 months of absolute reefing bliss, disaster has struck....

The last 2 months of the Dream Reef Tank have been a challenge, with 3 issues striking all at once. From a fairly small mechanical issue, to a regrettable fish choice up to a trace element poisoning - it's been a tough time!

Latest ICP is back, iodine levels are back into the "range". Whilst still slightly elevated, they are back to 118ug/L which should stop any further damage.

Also for all those asking - I have tested the strength of the Iodine in a static test of 25L of salt water, then adding 2 drops of iodine and testing again. It was the strength it said on the bottle, so it wasn't the cause :)

Very humbling to hear the obstacles you've been having to overcome with the dream tank even with the year of success. I just finished introducing my trochus snails to my display tank based on your CUC video and also finally dialed in a 2 part dosing system for my mixed reef. Your videos help a lot, it's helped keep a level head on my shoulders!

Hey Parker, thanks for sharing your incident.
Many reefers would not dare admit this!
I hope everything recovers quickly, good luck and keep going!

A wake up call indeed. It's what makes this hobby such a challenge. I went away for 4 days and came back to a SG of 1.023. One versa decided it wouldn't work properly and as a result our ATO was dumping copies amounts of fresh water into the system. At least my issue was an easy fix

Wow, never had that before, so strange not to find the culprit, glad it's back on track, great video as always

Sorry about the coral loss Sam, wish they had a decent test kit so difficult to read . You’ve made me think I should test mine tomorrow I just add iodine a few drops per day. Had a birds nest pale out the other day need to do an icp .

Good to hear you’ve got it under control with only minimal losses. That Iodine got in your tank manually. You’re dosing way under for 12 months and the previous results prove that. Iodine doesn’t get locked up by rock or sand so it wasn’t a build up that then got released. Someone put that Iodine in your system. 80 times the correct level is crazily high. Even if you had dementia and triple dosed every day at 3 drops you still wouldn’t end up with 1850ug because the Iodine that wasn’t taken up would leave the system through gas exchange. Someone either intentionally or accidentally put that Iodine in your tank. Does anyone else have access to your tank?

For dosing iodine, did you use the recommendation from the bottle or the reef moonshiners icp analysis tool? I’ve been on the RM method for 4ish months and that tool is a godsend. Also out of curiosity is triton used because the ATI test isn’t available in your area?

That said, that doesn’t answer any questions as to why your iodine suddenly spiked. It’s really quite strange

Tank still looks good👍 wonder could just be a bad batch of iodine dosing bottle you got?
I had a kind of similar issue this year. I cudnt get a p04 reading with my salifert kit, so i started dosing p04, then corals started dying, did an icp and p04 was off the charts! Turns out the test kit was faulty!😤😤

What make of iodide did you use, as Triton recommend using there own 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Right on, Interesting update Sam. I recall Richard Ross saying recently that the bad crap happening in your tank was from 3 weeks ago. I wonder how much iodine is left in your bottle. Maybe it got knocked over and never mentioned.
