As a German if have to disagree: South Africa is so easy reachable by night flight for Europeans (direct flight from many cities). The best: No time difference. Cape Town was so cheap till Covid. Now it’s double price for everything. It will be my 9th visit to South Africa and Cape Town on Sunday. Can’t wait to be back in the most beautiful City in the world.

If the ANC ever get control of CT it will be finished. One of the best places to visit and I have been many times after living in Joburg for 38 years, thankfully out of the place now.

I love Cape Town. Been there 9 times and part of my 3, 000 mile solo road trip across South Africa on my 60th birthday. Thanks for the great videos. Greg, Springfield, Louisiana. ps. 17 hours from New Orleans to Johannesburg.

I live in Cape Town, and I can assure you that these negatives sound much worse than they actually are. Firstly, load shedding is not that bad - it happens on a schedule, and usually for no longer than 2 hours, if at all that day. And everyone here just gets on with things... If you're in a bar or restaurant they will have a generator or other sources of lighting. And as for safety, you are as safe in Cape Town (the city area) as you are in London (I know, I lived in London for 11 years). If you walk with your phone out in central London someone can snatch it there too. So don't be careless like that with your valuables. But also don't think it's a dangerous city, because it is not - almost everyone here is is very chill, so you can be chill too. Just be sensible.

Also, the nightlife is by no means the best in the world, but we do have one - if you know where to go! But most establishments are on the smaller, more intimate side. Our big nightlife events are outdoors and out of the city (from Spring throughout Summer), usually over multiple days (you go camping there - or just stay awake! lol)

It's quite shocking, as a local, to go to a fancier/fancy restaurant once in a blue moon as a treat to see.... backpackers... Yes, good food is well-priced if you are coming from a strong Dollar or Euro country, but for us locals... not so much. Which is a real pity...
Thanks though for asking people not to complain about loadshedding - we have to live with it all the time, it causes havoc with our lives, and it's not going to go away anytime soon, so being reminded of it by those who can fly away from it, well, we can do without that!

I live in the Cape and travel locally with my family full-time and I’m absolutely loving your videos, concise and varied, excellent stuff. Really appreciate your perspective and respect of our culture. I do agree with one previous comment though that unfortunately for us who live here and earn local currency a lot of the nicer restaurants aren’t quite as accessible to us or are reserved for special occasions. I’m definitely jealous of travellers from stronger currencies being able to experience more than we usually can.

Keep up the great videos, new subscriber for sure!

just left CTown but admit to having stayed int he President Hotel just ahead of the electrons so there was no load shedding at all - and we did make sure we travelled where businesses were known to have generators in case of a shed. Yep - its a long and costly way away but stunning - and like you say - not a busy place and not really a place to take kids on holiday - probably the only place I have ever been that did not involve queues with families standing in them - and it was school holiday time while we were there. A far cry from the pains of being in Florida at the same time - better weather and 100% better value all round - the Cape gets my top vote

07:20 It's winter now and the sun sets shortly after 6pm. The sun sets after 8pm in the summer, so more suntime = more funtime.

Small towns along the Garden Route are also amazing. Some are deteriorated after the Pandemic, unfortunately. Loadshediing is not a big deal. Enjoy temporary off the grid. Candles and no internet bring back nostalgia and sanity.

Thank you for promoting our Country. Glad you loved your stay. There is more to explore up North especially if you want to experience the Africa wildlife.

It is only well priced for foreigners. In fact, property is unaffordable for locals due to the influx of foreigners buying what they consider to be cheap property.

I have been to countless cities around the World, and Cape Town still remains in the list of the Top 2 most beautiful cities in the World, impossible for anyone to argue that point, but having also lived in Cape Town for 6 months, I have to say I found it difficult to make friends there.

Many restaurants have back up alternatives like invertors /solar panels or diesel generators

Awesome recap and agree with all of these. Super interesting to share the reality of load-shedding with folks who haven't witnessed it too!

Thanks for being so positive about the load-shedding and asking people not to be negative about it! Yes, it's a reality but somehow about 2 months before elections and now still 2 week afterwards, there has been no loadshedding - Yay!
