I'm kinda surprised that you didn't bring up one fact about the pillars of creation. Essentially, one star had a massive supernova inside of it, however, due to us being incredibly far away, we are seeing it in the past. There's one theory that that supernova destroyed or misshaped the pillars, however we can't actually see it yet...
