Or just STOP THE INTEREST, or make it VERY low, on these loans. That would help A LOT of people in itself, wouldn't cost the government much and would cause a lot less resentment among people who didnt go to school because they were broke but smart enough not to take on crushing Student Loan Debt.

How to solve the student debt problem:

(1) Don’t forgive any student debt. It’s horrendously unfair in many ways and incentivizes people to run up debt with no consequences. It sets a terrible precedent that will lead to exorbitant amounts of financial irresponsibility.
(2) Retroactively cancel all interest accrued on government student loans. Any interest paid on student loans in the past could be rebated in the form of a tax credit.
(3) Have programs by which student loans won’t accrue any future interest as long as minimum payments are made on the loan. This will incentivize people to pay down there debt.
