it looks easy in the books, so elegant, so sophisticated and avantgarde. but how come whenever you try a to wear a full black look it doesn't work out? It's dull and lame.

I look amazing in all black, feeling very attacked by the title.

"nonexistent colour combination stress" matching shades of black is actually the most stressful experience imaginable

I’ve been wearing all black for about a year and love the freedom, mystery, and protection I feel with all black. It feels like a blank slate, an anonymous mask, an expression of grief and love. 🖤 it also looks sickening imo lol, esp with a lovely drape or a curious mix of shapes & textures.

Black is beautiful when the material is luxurious. The problem is with cheap fabrics where the black veers towards grey, purple, brown…dirty colours.

My British colleague (60+) always wore black head to toe, very stylish. Suddenly last winter she switched to cream, what a transformation! She looked much younger and so many people congratulated her that she was actually rather upset. Was she looking so bad in black? The truth is that black suits people who have a golden suntan or porcelain skin, but in winter we have sallow or ashy complexions and black accentuates that.

Thank you so much for the video! I like how Yohji Yamamoto once answered the question why he decided to work with black. He actually said that he chose to work with black because there are so many visual triggers currently which surround us, and he would not like it if his clothes disturbed our eyes even more with busy prints and bright colours. I can very much relate to this thought, and also I love how he shows this kind of care for people's sensory nervous system😂❤

I used versions of black rather than pure black: specifically extremely dark versions of taupe and slate. The idea being that you would use the contrasts between warm and colder shades of dark grey to create a balanced type of personal style. Something like Coffee is used to highlight taupe, while a cooler light grey is used to highlight slate grey. The challenge being to find colors that can exist in natural pigments, rather than produced synthetically.

I had been somewhat influenced by Sisters Of Mercy, The Cure, and The Banshees at some point. But that isn't specifically why I get for dark taupe and slate though.

Wearing and admiring black in different textures for over 10 years just cz nothing else gives me this sense of comfort. And, as weird as it sounds, once I caught myself starring at a person’s trousers in such a perfect black color, deep matte blackest black, it was so beautiful! 8 years ago and I still remember to this day (and hope they didn’t notice as they were busy with smth)

I can see myself coming back to this video for inspiration every so often when I feel like something’s not working with a black piece of clothing. You have created a timeless reference

I found the most beautiful structural black top on depop and the seller took down the post, a month later i’m still mourning that top we almost had an amazing relationship

I already know why. It washes out my delicate features. I am something like a soft spring. Unfortunately, when it comes to crafting a look, we must consider more than just the aesthetics we prefer.

I think this applies to monochromatic dressing generally. Not everyone looks good in black because of colour analysis, so I think that these rules can be applied to one of the darker tones suggested for each colour season/subseason.

Totally agree, my best all black look includes my vintage Junya for Comme hourglass/new look style blazer. the shape is so good it doesn't need colour!

Color is for everyone but me. My heart is black and I wear it on my sleeve ( literally)

I am excited by color but my hands always reach for black. For me one of the most beautiful colors in clothing is faded black. Faded black denim, linen, leather etc. I will acquire certain articles of clothing anticipating their eventual softening and fading. Conversely I am reminded of my aunt who was a hair stylist her whole career, she would periodically re-dye her black clothes in the washer by dumping a few bottles of black Rit dye in.

Black technically doesn’t suit me because my colouring is cool summer so fair freckle skin with pink undertones, sort of muddy blue eyes and dark ash blonde (dirty blonde) hair. Black ages me and I kind of look a little like a hag/witch. But I don’t give af I wear whatever colours I feel like!

To me, black is the hardest colour to wear because for it to be a good outfit, you really need good texture or shape, and to be honest, most fashion available to the public doesnt really have that 🤷‍♂🤷‍♀

Avant garde by definition has no relationship with the color black

Black looks so bad on me. I’ve always been so bummed about it. My face/hair is so low contrast visually, I get swallowed up by the starkness of black. 😢
