The Centre on Thursday told the Supreme Court that the grace marks of 1563 students who appeared for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate 2024 (NEET-UG 2024) will be cancelled and they will have the option to reappear for the exam. The court, after hearing the Centre’s decision, said that a re-exam will be conducted for the 1,563 students, which is scheduled to be held on June 23.

“A subsequent Committee has made recommendations after deliberations which are placed before us. According to recommendation, scorecards of 1563 candidates will be cancelled and stand withdrawn. A re-exam will be conducted for these 1563 candidates. The results of those who don’t wish to appear will be based on their actual marks without compensatory marks,” the Vacation Bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta said.

2. The entire NTA team who conducted NEET should be suspended and investigated by if found guilty should be dismissed.
3. Persons who leaked the paper should be dismissed from service and put in jail for at least 10 years.
4. Parents and students who participated in this scam should be banned forever from giving NEET or any other medical exam.
5. Such national level exams should be conducted in a strict and trustworthy manner, and a complete overhaul of the system is needed.

Supreme courts decision causes injustice to NEET 2024 students. Damage happened in Lakhs of ranks due to paper leakage and NTA correcting in Hundreds of Ranks based on Normalisation. Ranks may improve by just 1563, which doesnot justify damage. Paper leaked Institute and students are to be debarred or Re-NEET exam is the only solution.

My daughter lost 12 minutes because the invigilator asked her to fill out particulars after exam already started. In Meghalaya, students in many centres were distributed wrong question paper which were replaced, thereby causing loss of time.

IIT papers used to be printed in Government Security press where bank notes are printed. That policy was changed citing various logistical and financial difficulties. We should go back to the old policy. Middle class dreams are not for netas to play political football.

The following concerns to be addressed by NTA:

Highlights ( please refer to Details below for more explanation/ information of each of them):
1. Grace marks given for one physics question (related to “atom”) to be extended to all candidates or drop off the question.
2. Scanning software logic to be revalidated
3. “Time lost” grace marks to be extended to most of the students

Details:

1. The grace marks given for a physics question:
The grace marks given for a physics question where NTA awarded marks to limited students who answered anyone of two (defined) choices.
But there are students (including my child) who did not attend/ attempt the question as those answers are contradicting each other and attempting to answer would lead to negative marking.
so, the question should be dropped from the overall questions and correspondingly from the total marks. That is, the total number of questions should be 179 instead of 180. Similarly, total marks should be 716 instead of 720.

2. Revalidation of OMR scanning software logic:
To accommodate assigning 4 marks to the students who answered any one of the two defined choices for a physics question ( related to “atoms”), NTA might have changed the software application logic to read more than one choices as correct answers during scan of the OMR sheet.
NTA should ensure that the software assigns only 4 marks one time only and only to that one question. Other questions where a student might have marked more than one choices as answer should be considered as invalid or negative.
Otherwise there are chances of awarding 4 marks for invalid answer selection for questions and/or choices.

3. “Time lost” grace marks to be extended to most of the students:
Awarding grace marks for only limited students for "time lost" is an inappropriate decision. In most of the exam centers and for most of the students ( including my child), the time was not given for full 3 Hrs 20 mins because of one or more following reasons:
a) The question paper was not given/ distributed to all students uniform time at the beginning of the exam by the invigilator as he/she had to distribute the question paper in person to all students in the exam hall.
b) Similarly, collecting the OMR sheets at the end of the exam period was not uniform. As the invigilator will not be able to collect the OMR sheets from all at once.
c) During the examination, the invigilator had taken the signature from the student and he/she signed. The time was wasted for this process and it varies between 5 to 10 and is not uniform for all students.
So, grace marks for "time lost" up to 15 -20 mins to be given for most of the students including my child.

1, all the sincere students who actually managed to secure seat will face greatest injustice
2, nobody can take same mental pressure again
3, even if somebody is involved we will not give our time and efforts again
4, reneet is demanded by unqualified students they just want second chance they do not actually care about scams

1. Re-Exam is required because it will balance their fundamental rights (right to equality).

2. I believe in NTA because at the top positions qualified bureaucrats are managing but still the structure of NTA won't depend only on top positions the corruption lies in middle and at the root base base part.

3. To improve the exam conduction a fair and transparent investigation over NTA by CBI Or a committee having hon'ble ex-supreme court judge must be required.

4. NEET exam structure must be changed like UPSC there will be chances for better exam structure

5. NTA is not a culprit but some people inside it may be corrupt! In bureaucracy, we have confidence and trust because they go through such a worthy competitive exam UPSC civil services that can be implemented to these exams too.

There seems to be a misunderstanding regarding the marks... Ranks are rewarded based on percentile in such exams because each year the performance of students is different. If the current years paper was relatively easy, then there is an anticipated crowding of ranks near a small range of marks, that too in the upper percentages. Maybe there should be an audit into the past 10 years of neet/aipmt exams and see where they have taken shortcuts?
