DIY Laptop Repair Goes Horribly Wrong #shorts #laptoprepair #pc

The repair went horribly wrong, and I wasn't sure it could be fixed. This is what happens when you attempt a motherboard repair without the proper tools and equipment. The laptop was mailed in because the USB-C port wasn't working. The customer had tried to repair it themselves, but it went badly. After removing the motherboard and examining it under the microscope, I saw the extent of the damage.

A USB-C port is more complex than a standard USB port, with 24 pins (12 through-hole and 12 surface mount) that can't be installed using a standard soldering iron. I needed to remove the damaged port using my hot air station to see if it could be repaired. After cleaning all the pads and removing the solder from the holes, I realized the customer was lucky, and I could install a new port. In the end, I saved another laptop.

I wanted to replace my USB-C charge port on my Latitude 7370. Took one look at the size of it, and those through-hole pins, and said "nup" 😂
