Although Rex was tougher than Cody, I think it made sense for Cody to outrank Rex, because although Rex was tougher in combat, Cody was better in strategy and intelligence... And in most cases an officer who has the edge in strategy is more important than a one who has the edge in brute force because if you use strategy in battle rather than taking your enemies on with brute force then you'd be able to out-think, out maneuver and outsmart your enemies, thus winning the battle, where as charging into the front means your running into a fight with your enemies which could mean you're just throwing forces into the meat grinder...

Rex is the one of the absolute best characters in star wars. He’s the best clone, the best friend anyone could need, and he’s got heart just like Anakin did before he fell. It’s very emotional actually. Rex is definitely a hero, at least for my childhood. 🫡

Rex knew about the inhibitor chip from Fives so he was able to know what is happening and thus actually managed to delay the order for a short amount of time, while on the other hand Cody didn't know about it. If it wasn't for Fives, Rex would have followed the order without a doubt like Cody.

Rex did make battle plans he just made battle plans that were sort of one-size-fits-all because he knew how the Separatist forces functioned. He then applied these rough strategies that work across several different scenarios to the battlefield. He didn’t just go in blindly firing

Anikan also promoted Rex to commander in season 7 when he sent him and his team to help Ashoka on mandalore so he could have been commander if he really wanted to

Me and my best friend grew up with 2008 clone wars, i was team Rex and he was team Cody. Many great times were had debating back and forth who was better with each new episode that featured either or both of them

Commander cody's designation was CC was designed to be a commander, he was designed to know how to lead, but also how to strategize troops on a mass level. Captain rex was CT, meaning at one point he was one of the lower ranks before ranking up because of his superior's deaths, while proven his skill to take their position in the process. I only know this because it is stated that at the very beginning, each rank had their own letter designation, so someone who is born to be a clone captain wouldn't be CT. Anyone above lieutenant would be a CC, Although they would have extra letter designations in between, if you want to get very specific, and that's just because of being born into the position. Commander cody is CC-2224, although technically, commander cody is also CMC-2224, and that is because he is a martial commander

I get where you're coming from, but I don't think it's a fair comparison, but for a different reason than what most would say. Rex was designed to be the leading clone character. He was the one with the most screen time, and deliberately given more focus than any other clone, in a great part to being Anakin's XO.

Their story arcs also span a considerable length of time in the real world. Cody's first appearance was in RotS in 2005, and that's when we see his reaction to Order 66. It would be a full FIFTEEN YEARS before we would see what Rex's reaction to O66 in S7 of TCW in 2020 would be.

The depiction of the clones in general changed a great deal in that time. The TV shows made them fully fledged characters and humanised them.

Also, Rex knew about the existence of the inhibitor chips before O66 took place, even if he didn't initially believe Fives was right. That gave him a leg up, and why he was able to briefly resist before trying to shoot Ahsoka. Cody didn't have that knowledge, or that advantage.

It's implied by his appearance in TBB that his choices, including ordering his men to shoot at Obi-Wan, probably weighed very heavily on him. He had no idea that Obi-Wan had survived. Rex knew that Ahsoka survived, and was able to pretend to be dead rather than serve the Empire, so he didn't have to live with the same level of guilt.

It’s Because Cody is basically a 3 star general and rex would be compared closer to a regular captain, one is focused on the entire war the other is focused on a specific battle

I always admired how these two balance each other Out. One of my favorite arcs was in Season 1 of TCW when they were investigating on Cristophsis. The arc with Ventress and the Clone traitor Slick.
