Pigafetta's chronicle was written for the King of Spain, not someone you would want to bullshit, if you valued your head. He was subject to no one on board the ship, so his writing would have been very accurate imo

The huge mistake being made here, is wrongly assuming all giants are the same height or that who they see is a full sized adult or a youth.

The native American claims that the six fingered giants used to send their youth into their camps to spy on them. So, they devised a method of identifying them immediately, by raising their hands towards each other, allowing others to prove who they were; which required the removal of mittens/gloves. This is still practiced today, as part of their culture and fear that giants may some day return.
