📍 WHERE: Kyoto Maiko

👘 WHAT IS A MAIKO: A Maiko is an apprentice Geisha. They are skilled performers in Kyoto that often sing, play traditional Japanese instruments, and dance for entertainment.

This experience gives anyone the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Maiko tradition in a respectful and enriching way ☺️

💴 COST: 12,650 yen (~$94 USD)

📌 it is important to note that this is a form of cultural appreciation vs appropriations

Is this something you’d try?

This is cultural appreciation. It always depends on the context

That price seems surprisingly reasonable.

There's a strong misunderstanding for Cultural appropriation and Cultural APPRECIATION 🖤. THIS IS CULTURAL APPRECIATION.

People seem to forget that those people that did the makeover on her, are Japanese women that actually live in the Japan. The concept of cultural appropriation doesn't exist as much in countries like that. They actually enjoy it when foreigners dress up in their traditional clothes because it shows how much they appreciate the culture and their country

I did that when in Japan, years ago. It was really great experience... well it has photo shoot near by park included and random Japanese people wanted to also take my picture. But they were really polite while asking, and the studio I went all there was really nice too. So like this video's maker, I truly recommend it.

Honestly, around 100 bucks for a makeover and photoshoot is an absolutely amazing price. You get to know the culture and history, as well as the amazing art this is, in a much more intimate way that really helps you bond and appreciate it

I’m seeing a bunch of comments telling everybody especially the Americans that this is NOT cultural appropriation, but I have yet to see not ONE comment even on the line of saying anything about this is cultural appropriation (not even in the replies lol). 🤔🤣 How ‘bout everyone just be quiet and admire this women’s beauty.

Edit: grammar

Japan is very open with their culture and loves it when foreigners appreciate their culture! So I really hope there's no hate in the comments. Haven't seen any so far but I see people talking about seeing comments like that.

As a Dominican, tons of Americans go to the Dominican Republic and wear our cultural clothing. It’s not offensive, it’s appreciating the culture. She’s beautiful❤.
