Welcome! Today, let's explore the ancient Tirupperunturai temple and witness some amazing sculptures that hide here. But before that, let's witness two impressive miracles. Look at these imposing statues! Made entirely of stone, they are approximately 4.5 meters tall. In this modern world, where marketing takes up 90% of the space and substance only 10%, we often neglect the modesty of the ancients. The builders deliberately placed these extraordinary sculptures in discreet, almost invisible locations, with the aim of surprising those who encountered them. When entering this temple, there is a high chance of passing by them without even realizing it. After exploring the entire temple and returning home, exhaustion often prevents us from appreciating these two statues. So why did ancient builders purposely place them here so they wouldn't be easily noticed?

However, it's not just the size of these giants that impresses us. If we look at the micro details, we will be even more amazed. At the top of the giant on the left, we can see four distinct bands. The first represents the Sun and the Crescent Moon, symbolizing day and night. The next strip displays a series of strange cylinders, each with a unique pattern on its top. These are the Sahasralingas, a type of Linga that indicates the presence of Lord Shiva. Just below, there is a band adorned with chakras and shells, symbols of Lord Vishnu, the protector of everything. And, finally, a band with nine circles, representing the Navagrahas, the nine celestial bodies that influence planet Earth. This deity appears to be surrounded by garlands that symbolize the entire universe, towering majestically over it.

This sculpture's hair and fierce face have fantastic detail, but let's focus on the weapons. In the first two hands, the giant holds intriguing objects. Can you guess what they are? The first is a quiver, a bag that contains several arrows. And watch how he can pull out an arrow using just two fingers! In his other hand, he holds a bow that looks tiny in his giant hands. However, there is an incredible detail here: notice how the bowstring is taut, but there is still enough space between it and your thumb. This is known as elastic tension, and the string needs to be aligned perfectly with your thumb to work properly. And if you look closely, you'll see that there's a space between the bow and the string, just past the thumb. A fascinating detail that can only be seen with a magnifying glass.

In one of the hands we see an animal figure, a deer, while in the other there is a small weapon similar to an axe. These objects are known as Maan and Mazhu, and they have fascinating stories behind them. Further down, we find a trident, which we could easily confuse with the Trishul, symbol of Shiva. However, there is another strange detail: in the center of the trident, we see something that resembles a spinal column. This is another weapon called Vajra, capable of producing the power of lightning. Therefore, it is a combined weapon, where you can electrocute the enemy while impaling them with the trident. On the other side, there is a strange weapon that resembles a ring.

These impossible sculptures are truly stunning, both in size and detail. They make us reflect on the skill and creativity of ancient builders. So the next time you visit a historic site, take your time. Pay attention to hidden details as they can reveal fascinating secrets that were carefully left behind by our ancestors.
